Wall Street Oasis Writing Intern Needed (remote)
Project description: Finance / Wall Street / Business Writer
We are looking for several talented writers to write for WallStreetOasis. There is a list of suggested topics you can choose from but if there is an area of interest/specialization you would prefer to write on I am open to hear your ideas (satire, trading/markets, Wall Streeet culture etc). We only ask that you commit to a minimum of one post (400 word min.) per week and a minimum of 8-10 weeks. More details will be provided during the interview process. We are also open to guest-writing possibilities if your schedule does not allow for a regular writing schedule.
See examples of current and previous writing interns' articles:

The internship is unpaid, but tangible/intangible benefits you will receive are listed below. You will be working remotely, and communicating with me via email at least once per week. The ideal candidate is a VERY motivated self-starter with solid knowledge of finance and strong writing/research skills.
Timeline/hours:
-Start date: ASAP
-Trial period: 1-2 posts
-Internship term: minimum of 8 weeks, and 1 post (400 word minimum) per week
Skills/requirements:
-Knowledge of finance principles (prefer candidates who are at least upper-classmen and have completed a solid foundation of finance courses).
-Experience researching and writing on finance/business/econ related topics (via a blog, forum, coursework, research papers, previous work experience etc)
-Be able to keep up with the writing calendar / editorial board (both on trello) only requires ~10min max to mantain per week. Helps keep us organized.
-Fluent in English.
-Knowledge of what WSO is all about (ie study our "About us" page).
-Can commit to at least 1 post per week (400 word minimum) or give me 24 hours notice if you are going to miss a post.
-Though your background/experience are important for this, I essentially just want candidates who can be 100% committed to the internship. Please do not apply if you think this will be an issue.
Tangible Benefits for you:
-A digital record of your writing ability and financial expertise on a large financial website.
-Free access to all WSO Guides (1 after the 2 week initial trial, five more mid-way through, and the additional five after completion of the internship)
-Free access to WSO job board for one-year (after full-completion of internship)
-I will make myself available to you for any online-marketing questions you have. My background is not in finance so I cannot help with this, but I do know people who I can refer you to.
-Patrick* and I are happy to assist you with your career in the future - i.e. give recommendations / referrals etc.
-I can't guarantee anything, but if you're talented and consistent, then we will consider adding you onto the paid writer team (along with Eddie and M Friedman).
Intangible benefits: - i.e. what you will learn
-Potential for your posts to be promoted to the homepage and visible to thousands of daily visitors.
-Great networking opportunity - we encourage interns to engage with the community and also you are free to post your personal contact information (LinkedIn, email, website/blog url, etc)
-If you are a talented writer this could turn into a long-term position in the future. I am unable to promise anything regarding this, but it is a possibility.
-I've had several internships in the past, so I know how it is - I am trying to design this internship to be as beneficial for you as possible.
-See bottom of page for what Patrick can offer
To apply: please email me (with email subject title: "WSO Writing Internship") at [email protected] and attach your resume, 2 finance related writing samples (this can be from your coursework or from your own writing (your blog for example), and the answers to the following questions:
-A brief rundown of your experience with finance
-Current status (student / professional)
-A confirmation that you meet the aforementioned skills/requirements
-Your current availability (how many posts per week and for how many weeks) you can commit to
-If you are a student - a yes or no if you are also interested in being a campus rep at your school (not necessary, but a plus - see: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/wso-campus-r... )
After you apply I will respond to you asap with an example of a project you would be working on. If you feel like it is something you are definitely interested in doing we will set up a skype interview.
If accepted, your first review will be after two weeks. If you are not keeping up with the agreed upon level of work then we will have to replace you.
Thanks,
Andy
*additional info from Patrick:
If they do a good job, I am willing to serve as a personal reference for the interns that show a dedication to WSO and help us move forward. I can vouch that they busted their ass and are hard workers - exactly what banks are looking for. I wrote a great endorsement for a previous intern on LinkedIn, the intern that built our entire finance dictionary from scratch and did an amazing job. He now has me as a personal reference any time he is applying for jobs because he went above and beyond my expectations.

When you say that we can send you coursework as writing samples, do you mean entire essays or just parts of essays? Could you elaborate on that please? I am very interested, seeing as I've now finished the bulk of my MSc and will have more free time.
Then again, getting rejected will definitely hurt. :(

In fact I have an email drafted to you right now about the subject. I already bought the guide, but I'm willing to compile/correct the mistakes in exchange for access to some additional WSO content.
Some reading material for you to hopefully strengthen my case:
