Want a consulting internship during the summer before I start my full time offer

I start full time at a big 4 consulting arm in August, but I don't want to wait around and do nothing this summer. I want a job/internship that will keep me sharp/learning new things before I start. FYI in Chicago.

Where do I start looking for this weird type of internship where I'm not interested in working for the firm? Should I focus my sights on smaller boutique consulting firms that could just use an extra hand? (i'll have completed my masters degree in information systems at a top 25 business school)

Cold call? I can't really go to career fairs or anything because any firm will just be like wtf we don't want that. Am I limited to only squeezing my connections for a role like this or has anyone been in a similar situation and been able to jump into a consulting-relevant position and work for a couple months before they start full time?

Sorry if it's a difficult question but I like to think there's one of you that may have some insight/a thought that hasn't popped into my head about this situation.

Thanks.

Really? Just take the summer off and enjoy. You sound like you have no life or friends.

I need to pay rent on my nice apartment in the city and I want money to spend at bars/clubs/concerts. Masters took me an extra year so all my friends are working full time already - if i took the summer off I would turn into a lazy piece of shit. 3 months of free time would be dangerous for me...

Do you have anything else constructive to add or just speculating about my life?
