IWC makes a great watch. Cartier, Baume & Mercier, Patek Phillipe, Rolex are all also well-respected brands. I think Rolex makes a great watch, of course, but not as hot anymore since everyone seems to have one these days.
I've definitely heard of Bulova, but I am not familiar with their watches, quality, styles, etc. I've heard of the brand at least, so that counts for something.
I have a Cartier. It is an excellent everyday watch, very understated. Patek's are the best but are designed for an older crowd. My favorite by far is Franck Muller.
BTW I never liked the big, flashy, gaudy, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LOOOOOOOK AT ME, shiny, blingity bling blingolishus watches. Expensive, sometimes, but no class.
Had a Tag Heuer for 3 or so years now...love the watch. It looks great, sure it has a metal band but what the fuck ever, and i like the reliability and the look of the watch. I also like the older tags vs the new models. The new Tags dont do it for me. But, hey, if you're fonna spend 2 GS on a watch, there are a lot of options
and I agree with you...I like the older watches better. I have a 2000 Exclusive which I scooped up my freshman year of college. It has a metal band but it's a relatively small profile watch and is very conservative...very elegant.
Every young professional male should have a Rolex Submariner as a casual watch.
Patek's are the best, but not suitable for a younger guy. Wait until you are actually successful (and can afford a good one). IWC makes great substitutes for Patek. You can't go wrong with either, but you shouldn't be wearing that kind of watch at the Associate level. Analysts shouldn't even be thinking about them.
Cartier and Jacob & Co. are absolute jokes. Honestly, they are like jewlery, not fine time pieces. Get one of these if you want to look like a moron pop-culture idiot, or if you went to Cornell and just don't know any better.
Tags are, for the most part, a waste of money. Save a bit longer and buy the Rolex or IWC that the Tag is trying to compete with.
IWC Pilot Watch, on a leather strap, and a Rolex Oyster DateJust should be the perfect two watches for work, with the Submariner as your casual watch.

Cornell hit is mostly b/c I've had bad experiences with a few people from there and decided to believe that everyone is just as bad as those bad apples. Obviously not true.
Rolex can be looked at as "overplayed" or as "classic". If everyone in your office wears T&A shirts, are they "overplayed"?
I think the submariner is THE classic casual watch that has transcended many generations.
means nothing if everybody else has the same fucking thing. The best dressers are those who a) value quality shit, and b) have a style that is unique to them.
Individualism is the key to being the best dressed in the room. Especially when it comes to watches. I mean fuck, it's hard enough to differentiate yourself with shirts and suits...but there are SO MANY OPTIONS when it comes to watches.
IMO it's a tragedy to buy a rolex...which is not an expression of your personality...just reiterates that you don't have one.
i love T&A shirts, no i worship at the high church of Turnbull and Asser. Also i no what ur talking about with respect to Cornell. Every cornell dude ive met has a "i am the fucking man" attitude. IMO, much more rich ivy kids at cornell than yale. but the smarterst cornell kid is smarter than the smartest at yale, hands down.
at North Texas Community college. He can't wipe his ass without help...but I have a feeling he is smarter than the smartest kid at both Cornell and Yale, LOL.
A rolex is for someone who can afford a nice watch but has no appreciation for it and just wants a show off watch.
All Cartiers are not flashy and 15k. I have a roadster. perfect everyday watch, it has an exchangeable band (metal or leather)so I can dress it up or down.
Whoever said Panerai I completely agree with, but it takes a certain person to pull it off.
Still Franck Mueller is the shit....if you do not know that is then do not give your opinion (and you probably own a Rolex)

I expected dan to make this thread
Indeed! I haven't seen our old boy around lately...maybe he overdosed?
Hah! Speak of the devil!
So did I.
navitimer
Patek or Cartier or Jacob and Co for dress Omega or Tag for casual
it is a very good thread indeed
Hey man, if you appreciate sartorial elegance and fine niceities then this thread is for you.
No, i havent Overdosed yet. I am doing my post cycle therapy thoguh.

Patek's are the best, hands down.
What do you think of Bulova...classy and not outrageously priced..

cartier, piaget
I've definitely heard of Bulova, but I am not familiar with their watches, quality, styles, etc. I've heard of the brand at least, so that counts for something.
I like Hamilton, classic American style
Rolex Explorer II - classy, subtle and different than the rolex everybody has (read: submariner).
Cartier Tank is okay, also subtle. Patek is too MD for anyone without the title.
Metal-band watches are tacky and smack of nouveau-riche flashiness.
Seiko

I need to scoop up a Patek Philippe model #5146 men's complication in Platinum. Dan I know you would appreciate it.
Only problem is the $30K street price.
Anybody on here work in private client services...need a personal loan for something, ER...
Um....cartier? Don't those things cost like $15k?!?!?!!?
You can get a nice Cartier Pasha for less than 4g's. Cartier's don't have to be 15k.
leather band all the time. metal sucks.
I like metal, dont have to worry about the band breaking, I wear a citizen, in my off time a G-Shock
BTW I never liked the big, flashy, gaudy, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LOOOOOOOK AT ME, shiny, blingity bling blingolishus watches. Expensive, sometimes, but no class.
i agree. a nice subtle Patek will do
Patek = Understated Elegance
Check out Feelgoodwatches.com
Great pics. Many brands, including Patek, with fabulous examples.
Metal bands are more functional.
leather is more elegant
Sounds like a good arguement to have one of both.
Favorite sports watch is the Stainless Rolex Daytona (White Face).
Favorite dress watch is Patek.

Also, never, ever buy a fake watch.
whats with the cornell hit?
"Every young professional male should have a Rolex Submariner as a casual watch."
That's EXACTLY why I'll never buy a submariner. That shit is totally played out.
cartiers are nice, but mostly for show
i would never go rolex, just b/c they are overplayed

I forgot to mention Jaeger's. They make a great watch too. I'm a big fan of Jaeger's.
Panerai.
timex are nice...especially the ones with a timer.
Movado

especially those with disney characters
Save your money for after your dead, buy a titainum Skagen for $75 I get compliments all the time.
Patek is the best but as an analyst or even an associate for that matter, better think twice before buying it.
I'm thinking of getting a Breitling, looks nice and it doesn't cost a fortune.
