"We don't really hire juniors.. but we would love to meet you"?
Been cold-calling and e-mailing relevant companies last couple of weeks trying to score an internship or entry job.
So, I dropped my resume to (what in hindsight proved to be) the CEO of a shipbrokerage, and got a reply worded something like this:
"(...) Unfortunately, our company is not widely available for juniors or inexperienced brokers at this time. We have recently hired 15-20 brokers and have great need for competence in shipping throughout in order to support this organization. Having said that, it would be our pleasure to meet you."
How should I interpret this response? What can one expect from such a "meeting"?
Of course, I humbly accepted the offer to meet. How should I prepare?
prepare to impress them, ask good questions/use this as a learning opportunity, and keep an open mind
Great job at networking! This is an informational interview, and there is plenty of material on how to handle these on here. Just use the search function.
Good luck!
this - if anything it could prove useful in the future OP
Solid man
Are you looking to break into ship brokerage in foggy londontown? I networked a little bit for entry level positions with ship brokerages; ended up going the banking route anyway but still think ship brokerage seems really interesting. Definitely please try to follow up I'd love to hear how it goes.
Ive gotten this before. Its just an informational meeting, they are willing to sit down and talk about their career with you. Its probably not going anywhere but if a working professional offers their time up to you, you better fucking accept. Ive actually had people refer me to other firms in this fashion before so it might not be a complete dead end, best of luck.
Looking to get into shipbroking in Oslo mainly. Oslo is actually ranked the foremost city for maritime finance (before London, Singapore, Hamburg, Athens, NYC, etc), but I am open to relocating to just about anywhere.
Thanks for the pointers. Will definitively keep you posted on how it plays out.
in other words, he doesnt want to waste him time meeting someone inexperienced, which means ask him profound questions that may alter his decision on not hiring newcomers. cheers.
