Who asked you for it? HR?
.
I would think it was very bizarre if it was anyone but HR. it's not illegal for them to ask you your age, but there is no upside in them knowing, since it can only invite lawsuits if they use it improperly. It's been a long time since I've been on that side of things, so I'll be curious if others have been asked this as well.
Maybe they would use it to make sure you are at least 18? Maybe for events where they serve drinks? This is a little strange to me.
.
This sounds like nothing more than a filling the form sorta policy if its coming from HR. Don't sweat it- this should have NO impact on the likelihood of you getting an offer. If you're good, they'll take you no matter what. We had a guy who was 28 start out with our analyst class which was full of 21/22 yr old kids, happens at all banks.
naw man, quit stressing--this is totally standard. since 9/11, youve needed to provide a date of birth to get on a flight. regardless of if they're flying you in or not, it's probably a situation where, on the HR side, their process is the same for every superday/interview scheduling/whatever period... so the dumb HR chick will ask you for your date of birth regardless of if she even needs it to accommodate your interview. so relax, brother--it will go into a computer somewhere and will be forever forgotten... until you cop that offer. gl
Thanks guys. It sounds like this information will also be relayed to the interviewers too. For instance, they'll have my photo with my name, birthdate/age and school next to it which will be provided to everyone, not just the HR team. In that case, I'm sure this age info will be taken into account in the process. I guess that's just my luck. What do you guys think? . Here's what they said to provide:
To prepare for the event, we will put together a face book which will include a photo of each interviewee. This will be distributed to the HR team and to all ____ business representatives during your visit.
Yeah I would not sweat it; chances are you'll end up filling an employment application anyway, so I'm not sure why they asked for it, but it's not something that would necessarily hurt you (my group has a couple of analysts that are in their late 20's as well; some. Some people just get into the game a little bit later for whatever reason.)
If anything, being a veteran helps you. Banks always like to emphasize their diversity, either racial or unique backgrounds-wise. Don't worry about it.
