Kurt Salmon (Retail/Consumer)
Can anyone provide insight on:
1) Pay progression
2) Flexibility on moving to the private equity advisory group?
3) Just curious, but what kind of hotels the consultants stay at when travelling
Thanks!

1) This is very relative, but these consultants do make a good amount of money, especially on the health care side.
2) Moving to private equity is fairly difficult. Same goes with their small IB group.
3) lol
Do you know someone at the company? They seldom hire and usually only look at top south eastern schools (Vandy, Emory, UNC, Duke, etc) for their ATL division. Might be different for SF though.
This is for the NYC office. Can anyone offer any other insight?
Possibly. Do you have anymore detailed questions?
I am more familiar with their ATL office than the NY one.
Very solid firm though.
Exit opps? Do consultants typically stay or can they move on to other consulting firms? How is the bschool placement?
Well, like I said previously, this is not a Big4. I know more about the ATL region than the NY region. In ATL it is a very respected consulting firm. It can get you into great schools in the region like Vandy, Emory, Duke, UNC due to the alumni network there. The network also stretches to ivy schools as well. This also depends on your GPA and GMAT.
Exit ops to other firms (at least for ATL) are very manageable; however, most people seem to climb in the company or move to different divisions (Health Care consulting to IB or PE).
KSA has a consulting divison, IB division and PE division. They also have a presence in Germany as well.
Hello,
I wanted to know more about the ATL division. I was wondering if you can give me your thoughts on these topics:
Culture Career Progression within the firm Type/ Diversity of Project for entry level consultants
and really what hotels do they stay in when travelling :)
Would really appreciate your thoughts on this
Does anyone know how many offers were given out/accepted for ATL, SF, and NY offices?
why would you care about what kind of hotel you're staying at? Are you going to quit if they put you in Motel 6? jeez...
Kurt Salomon puts all their consultants in St. Regis.
Hey, as many wrote that they hire from Ivy leagues, does anyone know if they have ever hired, or is there remote chance to get hired, from a good (if not Ivy) east coast B School?
What do we think of Kurt Salmon and BearingPoint (Originally Posted: 05/11/2015)
Hi guys, I am a non-target School student interning at IBM GBS . I landed 3 offers as BA in FS at Kurt Salmon , Bearing Point and IBM CBD program.
I was wondering what is the value of theses firms on the consulting market (especially KS and BearingPoint) in term of exit opportunity... Do you think it is possible to move to strategy consulting boutiques after 2-3 years ? Especially in Europe?
I have a perception of BearingPoint in the nordics to be mid-market operations and typically longer implementation projects / interim resource consulting. However, this is surely a bit exaggerated and they will probably have some strategy projects as well. Ask them in interviews about their share of strat projects, and discount that with 50% to get close to the real value. The brand BP should allow you to transition if and only if you have done a large share (50%+) of strategy related projects during your time there. So focus on building the "right cv" and getting strategy projects when you are there. I don't know of KS and would stay away from IBM from a brand perspective if your goal is to transition to boutique strat.
Kurt Salmon, difficult to get into? (Originally Posted: 09/21/2012)
Hello,
I have a strong interest in joining Kurt Salmon. I was a poli. sci. major at a top university with mediocre grades. I have been working for 7 months at the Macy's Executive Development Program. Therefore, I have experience in retail itself, particularly in working with driving sales through reports and data analysis. Do I even have a chance to get in? Can anyone give me any tips on how I can get in? I already attended the info session on campus. I feel like I connected with a partner, who liked my work experience so far. He told me he would forward my resume but I'm sure if he was just saying that to be nice. I sent him a pretty lengthy e-mail about my interest, but I haven't heard back yet.
I would appreciate any and all input.
I don't even know Kurt, let alone how to enter Kurt.
Dammit! I wanted to make that joke
This thread is useless without pics...brb using my imagination.
Which division and which location?
I can tell you for the Atlanta division you pretty much need an MBA from emory/duke/unc/vandy to even be looked at.
Truth be told, KSA cums over the thought of emory.
San Francisco, ca. Retail and Consumer Goods consultant.
So, H/S isn't going to cut it?

How does Kurt Salmon compare to MBB in terms of retail/consumer goods? Exit opportunities?
Can't speak to exit opps. Kurt Salmon will focus more heavily on ops-related projects. I think it's great if you know for sure you're interested in retail and consumer goods. But compared to MBB, there's a lot less strategy.
