What Do You Think Of Casual Fridays?
Honestly, what do you guys think? I am working right now at a place with a casual-Friday policy, but I am very averse to wearing jeans in the office. Actually I don't usually wear jeans even on weekends.
There is something about keeping your work life and leisure separately that is reflected in the way you dress.
Frankly, casual fridays are about separating the weak from the strong. Do you really want to roll into the office wearing jeans and a polo? Is that really how you want your superiors to see you? I make a point of renting a tux for casual fridays just so the other interns know that there's nothing casual about being a top performer and closing fucking deals.

I've been wearing a suit & tie daily for a while now, and to put it bluntly it's a pain in the ass. I wish I could just wear nice dress shirts with slacks on a regular basis, or maybe in the 100 degree summer I could rock a peter millar polo.
I'd be all for it, but still would dress up for client meetings.
It's tricky because the worst thing you could do is underdress but you also don't want to look like you have a stick up your a**. I suggest nice jeans, tucked in button up and nice shoes.
Casual Friday in the tech world is pajama day. It's all fun and games till you show up naked not understanding the context.
Bro just chill, rock a button-up and some jeans or chinos, please don't tuck, it makes you look like a grandpa. Personally I wish casual Friday would morph into casual every day.
Sure, that's when you ~casually~ lose all of your investors because you ~casually~ did your research and you're ~casually~ getting a divorce because now you're ~casually~ broke
I ~seriously~ hope you're joking.
In my opinion you look stupid being the only guy not wearing jeans when everyone else does and its a firm-wide policy. Nobody will care what you do, but don't think it makes you stand out or more professional than others for not doing it
I think they're great, but I usually wear khakis+polo just in case I have to take a meeting in another building. Khakis are more comfortable to me than jeans anyway.
I find that jeans and STDs have many similarities.
I personally don't have any, but many people do.
It is an old wives tale
My 18 odd experience in the professional workplace is that casual Fridays are normally a sign that pay bumps aren't going to be good.
Wish every day was casual Friday.
Khakis and golf polos everyday for me, casual Friday is shorts and a t-shirt. Captain Casual
.
I'll be honest, I pretty much view my work attire like a uniform. White button up shirt, navy slacks...everyday, regardless of the casual Friday policy. Just easier to wake up and grab the same thing everyday without having to think about it.
Khaki shorts, golf polo, and flip flops. Every. Day. Come at me bro.
denim is against company policy at my firm
I thought I'd be like Harvey Specter and wear a different designer suit every day but now I'm only wearing dress shirt and formal slacks to work (in SF) and I frankly think its going to be hell wearing a suit. I long for Fridays when I can slip into sweatpants, sneakers, and a t-shirt
Wore Jeans and a polo to casual friday for the first department/group I was in as a SA and was totally fine. Rotated to a different group, did the same thing, and got absolutely annihilated from the VP there. Definitely double check the conditions for whichever department you're in. If unsure, dress how you normally would.
Anyone else ever observe that all of the firms that blew up in 08/09 were the ones that were business formal? Look it up...
In my last I-banking job, I rocked jeans daily once I got to VP (at a boutique). I left to found a startup, and I wear shorts and t-shirts every day now. As an entrepreneur, you are always on-call, and there is no place to divide work and personal life so you might as well be comfortable.
I love the feeling of proper suit pants - so I just wear that, but instead of wearing a white shirt, I wear a blue one. No tie or so. Some nice shoes...
Harvey Specter Style every god damn day.
Your firm has casual Fridays on a Thursday? That's pretty solid.
Get past the pretense and just focus on the job.
Don't look like shit though.
There are so many horrible attempts at being funny in this thread
This was supposed to be a serious thread btw....
Apologies, it was a late night.
OP - Dude, just dress like your co-workers, congrats if your most difficult conundrum on a Thursday, is your concern about how you dress on Fridays...
What do you guys wear on casual Fridays? (Originally Posted: 04/23/2016)
I am an incoming summer intern at a BB. I am little confused about casual fridays.
What do you guys wear on casual Fridays?
Have you seen what your other co workers wear on casual fridays? Ask a few if you don't know to get an overall idea of what is good to wear and what is not okay to wear.
Since I am new to the forum I can't post links but try googling something like casual friday men to also give you an idea.
It still has a bit of business look but definitely is more casual. Looks nice too.

There is nothing wrong with asking the firm or, as sampearson said, seeing what the other people wear on that day.
Ask a F-T analyst, different places it means different things. Safest guess is to go suit, no tie, the first time and then see what other junior people wear (you can just take your jacket off if you feel super overdressed).
Usually, I stroll in wearing my finest birthday suit.
Intern wearing novelty cufflinks on "casual" Fridays? (Originally Posted: 11/26/2013)
Appropriate or not? For example, christmas cufflinks near christmas-time.
If you have to ask...
No.
I where my Tudor ruff and skin tight white leather jacket on Fridays, trust me dude, it's fine. And if your office doesn't like it, screw 'em.
Why is an intern wearing cuff links?
Christmas cufflinks are acceptable as long as it is layered with Christmas sweater!
I only wear this on Fridays
I don't think novelty items are ever appropriate.
I agree. Also, what is the point of wearing cufflinks to causal Friday?
Casual Fridays - Hawaiian shirts? (Originally Posted: 02/17/2011)
Hawaiian shirts on cas fridays...
Yay or nay?
where do you work? that would define casual... For example if you work in a top tier IBD casual friday would prob consist of letting your tie a little loose. If you worked on a porn shoot it would prob consist of letting your dick hang out.
haha we have casual Friday and i learned the first Friday that no one in FO actually participates and all the other people wear jeans and t shirts every day so...
At my summer place, cas Fridays meant I didn't need to wear a tie....nothing more
as long as it isn't 'Casual Sunday'
I wouldn't wear a Hawaiian shirt unless I worked front office at Margaritaville.
Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should.
When are hawaiian shirts ever a good idea?
fraternity parent cocktail events, with a sport coat of course
To be honest, guys with six packs look like they have a gut wearing those shirts. Not flattering!
But guys with a big gut look the same as everyone else when they wear a Hawaiian shirt.
I wore shorts to work today. Suck it bitches.
The homeless man has you beat, he wore his pjs to work
I typically just go shirtless on Fridays. Maybe jorts.
Guess I forgot to mention that I didn't lick the cheese off the McDonalds wrappers in the dumpster...my bad
LOL i was totally just being an ass, tends to happen when my blood sugar gets low
Calling HPM's bluff. Doubt you wore shorts you fucking idiot.
Sits quietly in the corner waiting for the battle to begin.
It was 70 degrees and we have no dress code. Why would I lie? One of the senior analysts goes to the gym before work and showers at lunch. How does wearing shorts make me a fucking idiot?
Easy 29 bananas...you might want to figure out what people on this forum actually do before you start making yourself look like a complete idiot. Not everyone here wears a suit mon-fri and works in Manhattan.
