Wall Street Barbers
I've been seeing people talking about going bald at the Thin Hair - Limited to Style thread, and it got me thinking about aggregating barber picks from our fellow WSO Users.
It might be hype, but I hear these three are Legendary WS Barbers in NY: (Cut is ~$60)
• Joe Provenzano (212)-248-3939
- New Street Barber Shop
- Mon - Fri
- 7:30am to 5:30pm
• Salvatore Anzalone (212)-742-8254 (Cuts Blankfein & Paulson)
- Salvatore Barber Shop
- Mon - Fri
- 8am to 6pm
• Niall Costello (212)-349-5064 (Shop that Cut JP Morgan Jr.)
- Esquires of Wall Street

Who are you're favorite barbers, at what city, and what's the typical charge?

Desperately need a haircut but I don't want to spend a lot of money. Haven't been too satisfied with my barber lately so I want to try a new place. List your favorite spots as well as prices. Thanks. Also, probably out of my range but anyone know the prices at John Allan's and Paul Mole?

Its been years and I have yet to find a go-to place. Where are the actual bankers on WSO getting their hair done.
are you white/asian/black, etc? i'm asking because i never let a white person touch my hair, and i know a lot of asian kids who agree with me.
Best NYC & Boston Barbers? (Originally Posted: 12/28/2012)
Discuss. Since this pertains to men's hair...I hate to say it but - I really don't want a woman cutting my hair. I usually go every 2-3 weeks.
I get all of my fancy hair cuts at FSC in the West Village. I highly recommend them for when you feel lke stepping it up a notch ($42 plus tip).
good place to get haircut in manhattan? (Originally Posted: 01/18/2015)
Anyone know a good barber near the times square area (up to $40 a cut). New in town and only see dumpy places when I walk around.
Has anyone ever gotten a haircut at Blind Barber in East Village? (Originally Posted: 09/26/2014)
Never done it but curious to see if people have had good experiences.
I had a drink there once, the bartenders know what's up. I'm sure this is less than helpful

I like the friendly Russian dudes at Pearl Street, but that's DT.....
Cheap. I should check it out.
$42 for a haircut? No way
Yeah man white barbers just don't understand!!! You can explain to them exactly what to do and they still fuck up
Then just go to a barber and pay the standard $12-$15 for a haircut. There are normal barbershops all over the place, but there are very few "nice" barbershops who'll actually care about your hair at that price.
(I used to scoff at paying more than $15 too.)
This. And they give you a free shot of whiskey around the holidays. Great dudes.
[insert bank name here] ZING!
FSC Barbers on Horatio if you know what's up.
Pearl Street Barbers
Shave your head in the sink, like a boss.
have to reference one of my favorite WSO quotes of all time here...
it's fun at night when it turns into a club, but wouldn't particularly recommend it during the day. Try fellow barber in the west village, they do reservations now online and are excellent [ask for Tim]. It's about $45. Alternatively, you can do "on the mark" barber shop on 13th and A. it's quick, dirty, and cheap $20
If you don't keep your hair in a short crew cut (there are other acceptable conservative styles) you probably want to shell out the $40.
In midtown, the place in Le Parker Meridian and Jerry's in Rock Center. Blind barber is interesting (cocktail bar out back, barber in the front) but I wouldn't get regular haircuts there.
Alternatively, get a John Allen's membership, worth it if you are actually going every 2-3 weeks and not every month,
^Mediocre cuts. Great experience though.
I think John Allan is $60-$70
We've got a Russian barber shop we like to go to also UFO... the guys are cool and we love the hot lather and old school experience...
Pearl Street barbers, get the big guy in the middle, he does the best work. $20 + tip
I usually get a haircut in Chinatown. It's dirt cheap and they do a really good job. My haircut is super simple though, so if you need something on a higher level I would go to Prestige Barber Shop.
I don't care how much money I'm making, I'll never pay $40 for a haircut.
There's a great place downtown called Ray's Barber Shop, I think it's on Chambers St. $17 including tip, ask for Arsene. The guy gives a great cut.
Is this a troll?
I suggest you ask for this: http://www.refinedguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/1-indian-crackhead…
I use same tipping logic. nice.
I travel to UES (74th street) for Paul Mole barber shop. Great haircut, no problem walking in, real old-time barber shop feel.
Fulton Haircuters $15
Dude, I'm not sure Blankfein needs a skilled technician
New York Shaving Company
Frank's on Thompson street in Greenwich Village. $17 Got to be specific with what you want though.
What kind of hair are we talking about here ?
If it's the hair on your head then I would recommend a barber shop.
I have officially added "hambino" to my vernacular.
Which head?
if you have hair on your "other" head, you may want to see a doctor, not the barber
Have they relocated since Hurricane Sandy?
Dick I am indeed a man
New York Shaving Company
Some people really depend on WSO for every decision.. Anyways.. it depends on your kind of hair really.. but IMO, go uptown to Harlem/Wash heights and get a haircut. Its a 15 min train ride but at least your hair wont look terrible
Try Premium Barber on 52nd and 2nd especially if you are in Midtown East. Affordable without having to take a gamble... I think it's 16 bucks.
http://commercialobserver.com/2012/12/one-new-york-plaza-retail-space-r…
crap they ran off again
I can't think of the name...but it looks like a hole in the wall joint in Midtown, and the ladies inside only speak Russian. Best cut I've gotten in years tho
This should be in the Wall Street Fashion forum.
^ Fulton Street (if you're working downtown). Ask for Nick.
If you are looking for a super fabulous haircut I recommend going to see Ted Gibson at his Salon in the Flatiron area. It's a bit pricey at $1,200 a cut, but well worth it!
Jerry's in Rock Center for the midtown folks.
No. $1200 for a man's haircut means you're an ass. Nothing more. I'd say it's more along the lines of Marcus' statement above but it's figuratively sodomizing you.
When I was in my mid 20's in the late-'90's I partially lived in Boston. There was this barber in the old State Street building in the basement on Franklin near PO Square. There were Playboys and Penthouses to read, you could smoke cigs or buy a cigar from them. $8 for a great cut, $8 more for a straight razor shave. Find that in NYC, inflation adjusted.

john allens
lol hit up bayside queens if you can. rubens haircutters on francis lewis, you can still get your shape ups, tape ups, fades, yet still have the whole "euro" look. message me if you're down.
i've heard of legendary haircuts from greek bonds
Astor Place
zing!!
Not that close to Times Square, but Next Level Barber Shop on Broome St. Joe will take care of you.
Chinatown
It depends. Are you white, black or Hispanic? It matters. I've had my personal barber since high school so I'm lucky, but from experience if your black then go to a black barber, white then go to a white barber. Hispanic barbers can usually cut both. Not racist here it's just barbers tend to cut their own kind of hair the best.
Depending on the style wanted pick your spots. If you have locks of love your better off going to a salon. Just want a fade then go to someone that's great with clippers.
It's not about the shop, it's about the guy cutting. You won't know until you go and get a cut for yourself.
Decisions decisions
12 bucks btw tip em 5
If you're looking for a cheaper option (
Wanted to say this but too long to explain. This person is 100% correct though
Go to Raphael's barber shop. Including tip it's 20 dollars, and the service is reliable. I personally get 4 on the sides and back, and I keep the top longer so that I can semi-part it. The haircuts are consistent, fast but not too fast, and they take a straight razor to the sideburns and back of the head. You almost always need a shower afterwards though because I wish they cleaned you up better or shampooed your hair.

I was an Esquires guy while living and working downtown. High quality establishment.
What was their usual best/priority cut?
Spiff near Grand Central. On 46th and 3rd. It's pricey. But you can get a 6 ($450) or 12 ($785) month membership for unlimited cuts. I go almost every two weeks.
They do a great job and give free alcohol. 'The Classic' includes shampoo, head massage, manicure, hot towel, neck massage, shoe-shine. Takes about an hour. $68 for that shit. No tip. So if you go 2x a month for 6 months retail is about $816 ... hence why tip isn't asked for nor required. Some do tip though. But I don't ball hard enough to tip. Only to get an overpriced haircut and feel good about myself.

Shaniqua's weaves on Flatbush Ave
Before I go check this place out, answer me honestly: Can they cut curly afro-ish hair short, correctly? (read: I am a black guy with limited barber shop options)

Lambie, they normally don't buzz cut if that's what you're asking. Unless its a requirement. I'm a white dude with your standard Justin Bieber hair so I can't comment on whether they can or can't cut your Afro locs properly. They just sit me down and scissor all the way.
All the core staff is highly trained and it's NYC, so I've seen plenty of people walk through the doors of all races, shapes, and sizes. African American as well.
If you're looking for a sub $20 cut, check out Sigfrido's (22nd and 1st) and Bedford Barbers (59th and 1st/2nd).
On the Mark Barbershop in East Village.
You won't regret it..
http://www.yelp.com/biz/on-the-mark-barbershop-manhattan
Favorite is Takamichi Hair on Bowery, just below Houston. ~ 80 + tip, but includes free drinks, massage, shampoo, etc. And plenty of talent catch your eye.
Used to get my cuts at Esquires.
^I got a bad haircut from On the Mark, and my haircut is as simple as they come. (4 on the sides and back, longer on top.) My sideburns were uneven and the top of my head was shorter than the sides and back. It was ridiculous. I went there 3 times in total, and I'm probably never going back.
Highly encourage you guys to join John Allens though. Unlimited shoe shines, manicures, hair cuts, beers for $800 a year. VERY good too.
Been going to Jay at Astor Hair for a couple years now, he's done my asian head well and has honed his technique to suit my hair/style. 15+5 tip from me, but there are a ton of other barbers that work there with lower demand, I'm sure they're all proficient enough to get the job done.
Salvatore's in Morgan Stanley's building
lol its not about the price when it comes to the haircut, its about whether barber "gets it or not." you can essentially go to some flaming shit in manhattan that'll cost you 30 bucks and odds are you'll come out looking like a hipster, or you can hit up a dude who charges 12 bucks for a cut and can nicely (and evenly) line your shit up and know how to trim your hair with scissors and shit. just common sense to me.
