If you do a black suit, go with a white shirt and a solid dark red or dark blue tie. You could also do navy suit, I would again go with a white shirt and a dark red tie.
Thanks Otto! Is a navy suit recommended more then a black suit? Or is a black suit acceptable?
I like black better because it's more slimming and gives you a more "fit" appearance - but I highly doubt you'll get dinged for wearing a nice well-fitted navy suit. I think it comes down to personal preference.

I've only ever done black suits, but I have heard from people who prefer navy/gray. There have been very long threads on this in the past, with no conclusive answers. Your shirt/tie choice might be more important

Funerals too. Never have been a fan of a black suit for work/interviews, but do whatever you feel comfortable with.
if you're buying a suit, buy navy.

regardless of what color, make sure everything fits well and is pressed.
I always go with a white dress shirt. The color of the suit (black/navy/grey) is fine as long as the suit is fitted.
Do not wear black. If that's the only suit you have and your financial situation isn't such that you can afford a new one, fine. Pair it with a white shirt and a tie in a conservative color (this means nothing in the red family).
Black suits are something you wear attending a funeral or a worker in the following professions: waiter, maitre d', musician, mafioso, bouncer, driver, private security, airplane pilot ... etc.
They are not considered appropriate for business. Sure, you won't burn and die for wearing one to an interview, but it's a thing you should certainly know. Don't buy a black suit as your first suit.
Your first should be charcoal or navy. Your second should be whichever of those two your first wasn't.

I can only get it from Macys for right now. Looking to get a summer Intern position or a SA job in Investment Banking. Are the 3 pocket suits acceptable(ticket pocket that's what you call it? Also what color?
Ticket pocket is ok, but probably not advisable for your first suit. As far as color, muted navy/charcoal/dark grey. Standard. Make sure you have good shoes (black captoes).

You can go for Drop 7' Trim Fit Wool Suit. Color black.
This is a rookie mistake. Never black for your first suit. Heck, never black for a work suit.
Anything but custom made is unacceptable. I'd stick with a maroon or dark purple, be the flashiest one in the room and never look back.

Nobody is going to care about the brand, especially for interns unless you try to flash it all the time. Stay away from pinstripes or other patterns. Solid gray / charcoal / navy as mentioned before. Also don't wear any flashy accessories such as a tie bar or pocket square.

Nobody cares about the brand. Focus on fit and a fabric that doesn't look like you bought it at K-Mart. Just about any online MTM shop should be fine if not better than what you need.

Don't buy your suit at a department store. If slightly used suits are ok with you, go to a high-end department store (Neiman Macrus, Barneys, Saks, etc.) and try on some suits. Remember your size and the brand (some top brands are Brioni, Canali, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Hickey Freeman). Go to eBay and do a search for the brand and size. Once you get your suit, take it to a tailor and have it fitted.
I did this and got a Hickey Freeman sports coat that Nordstrom was selling for $1,000 for $90. It fit perfectly, but tailoring would have been under $100.

If you're in the throes of interview season, you probably don't have 4-6 weeks to wait on a custom suit from one of the online shops like Indochino or Alton Lane, so your best bet may be to get a nice-looking one from a dept. store (no one will know the brand but you; it matters more how it looks) and try to get it tailored quickly.

I think you can get a lower end Ralph Lauren or Hugo boss from there. I would go with the classic 3 button and buy a slim fit. Spend the extra money on a good tailor. Side note: Learn to shine your shoes and belt. That always makes me feel good for an interview

Trim fit, mostly will vary by brand.
Honestly, if they deny you for having a poor suit during an interview, you should not want to work at the firm in the first place.
Brand doesn't matter, make sure it's not polyester, it fits well, navy in colour and black oxfords.

I would recommend that you get a charcoal suit for your first one. You can use it for work and also for formal black tie events, hence charcoal is the most versatile suit color.
Never had a "first" suit. I went w/ Jos A Bank because I realized I needed 3 suits for the week... Buy 1 get 2 free.
I personally have a penchant for Valentino suits and Oliver Peoples glasses
No one here said anything about the tie. I have seen so many bad ties when interviewing people... and as much as comments on them in the war room after the interviews.
Guys, please avoid any burberry theme tie. It is crucial.
