what is the consensus on IBD Summer Analyst in Asia vs US?
I've heard that its a bit easier to get an IBD role in Asia; just wanted to clear things up

The consensus is that you should summer where you want to work full time, which only you can decide.
For someone who did recruiting for both, I can tell you that is not necessarily true. PM me if you want to ask me any questions. In fact, Asia may actually be harder to break in just because they don't recruit for that many spots in the first place (for HK, a typical BB SA class is 10-20 with a substantially lower offer rate than NY) and get applicants from not only the US, but UK and rest of Asia as well. But if you are an Asian native with relatively weak English skills, Asia will probably be easier for you.
But of course, your decision should be based on where you want to work full-time and beyond.
Shouldn't matter that much since Asia recruiting ends earlier. Why not try both and see for yourself?
Definitely don't think Asia would be easier, esp. if you live and go to school in the US
definitely think asia would be easier because they like kids with the international exposure. but's thats only representative of my experience with some BBs

Sorry guys, new here so can't PM anyone. Does anyone have typical retention rates for Summer Associates in Asia BBs?
In my experience, Asia (HK) was definitely easier.
Background: Top academic school in the US, international student. (The school itself is not a target school for BB, and no I'm not from HK).
For the US, I rarely got through first round with BBs and even if I did HR recommended me to S&T (STEM Major, Asian name have to do anything with it...? idk, but that's how it felt when I was going through the process) Ended up getting couple MM IBD and HF (through Bloomberg Assessment Test Introduction) at the end of the process.
For HK, I got at least superday for every BB that I've applied to. If you don't speak Chinese, it is a bit harder for a bank like Citi. (Yes, they actually test you - to translate stuff - during the super day).
One thing that I would consider is that [I heard] HK has lower conversion rate for interns.
