What is wrong with my resume? Getting very few interviews.

For my interviews, I did notice I was asked a lot about why XX and why not banking. I do have an answer that is pretty decent (e.g. for a financial services consulting firm I said I wanted to gain exposure and learn about how different types of financial services companies operate like IBs, retail banks, etc. and have a greater opportunity to travel and a greater exposure to different types of projects. ) Do you guys think I bankified my resume too much?

did you network? i've found that resumes don't really mean shit if you're a target school in terms of getting interviews unless your resume is: 1. absolute garbage; or 2. you're such an absolute stud that no one can touch you (your resume is really solid, but you're not a kid who interned at MS IBD as a sophomore).

at a target school, the screeners just pick all their friends unless you make an effort to network.

Thanks for the fast reply. I go to a school like Rutgers/PSU, so there are resume drops for BB FO jobs, but no on campus recruiting. My school is a Big 4 Audit/Tax/FAS target and has some solid MM IBDs doing on campus recruiting. I did attend the career fairs and introduced myself to the recruiters and no, I am not socially awkward or anything. I had solid chats with the recruiters and one of them was a director whoe really liked my resume told me to send him my resume and he would forward it to the campus recruiter (for like extra points I guess) but I still got rejected.

There are 3 instances of investment banking type things. I am wondering if I should reword my fellows program as it makes it seem like I am really gunning for IB and that other interns are backup plans and remove the IB Club for these resume drops at these firms.

Actually, I did notice that it does seem a bit too IB-focused, but your experience is solid enough that I don't see why they wouldn't interview you at least first...

They can always ding you in the future if they think you're just using it to hedge your bets against IB.

ER internship description is way too short. You have a FO internship and it has the same amount of bullets as most of your other stuff.

You don't go to a target so you have to emphasize the things that make you stand out. Add another 3 or so bullets to the ER internship and beef up the current ones since they sound really vague.

Maybe cut out the MMA officer position or keep it in your interests.

To be honest, I did that because its not really a FO internship. Some positions have fancy names and this is pretty much that. I am learning a lot about the industry and how it works, but not real financial analysis skills. I kept it to really the amount of work I actually did because if I ever met people who worked in that industry or in IB who was my interviewer (and there are some people I interviewed/talked with who are ex-WS) I could have a sort of disclaimer against that.
