What is Your Bank's Dinner Allowance Policy?
Fellow primates - curious to see what the meal allowance is for banks in NYC and SF.
I've been told amounts ranging from $20 to $35 a night for weeknights, with $50-$75 on weekends. Please shed some light on this. No need to name specific banks, just need city, BB/MM/Boutique, and weekday/weekend allowance amounts.
Thanks in advance!
BB - NYC - $25
BB - NYC - $30 weeknights, $15 for lunch on weekends and $30 for dinner
Wow...awesome week policy, shit weekend policy
Boutique - $40
Just out of curiosity, can you guys pocket whatever you don't use?
Typically, you put in an order online through an account paid for by the bank, so you can order extra food and have it for lunch the next day if you can stay under the budget, but you can't directly pocket any unused money.
Most banks provide an "expense" not a per diem, difference being an expense you can use up to the amount, with a use it, or lose it mentality. Per diems are more of an allowance and you keep whatever. I don't know of any banks that do per diems, and only know a handful of consulting firms that do that.
I'm at a boutique MM and we don't have a set amount, more of a "best judgement" but generally hover around the $25 mark
Thanks guys! Any Bay Area input? I've heard rumors of $35 on weeknights and $65 on weekends becoming the new trend.
BB Bay ares - $30 for dinner on week nights; $15 for lunch and $30 for dinner on weekends.
Dallas, MM, $40
$25. Most of my fellow analysts and I have gotten really good at stretching that to cover lunch as well.
what??? they give meal allowances?
East Coast- $75/day- however you want to use it but goes through my corp. card so can't pocket it.
that's high! i heard it's only 25/day at Lazard
What the hell, whats the price break down for lunch/meal?
No breakdown per meal- just expected to be reasonable and not exceed the $75/day limit. We are a pretty small group with our own P&L so none of us are jerks about it. When I'm with a group or at a meeting I go along with the crowd on the more expensive dinner (I just don't show that I split a bottle of wine but submitting the total receipt- not the itemized). Generally speaking- it I hit Starbucks up multiple times a day and had a $50 dinner every night it would raise some eyebrows but no one has ever said anything to me except not to exceed $75/day.
$40 - Toronto PE
meal allowances survey - urgent help requested! (Originally Posted: 02/04/2010)
hey everyone!
need your urgent help for a survey that i'm conducting... I wanted to know a couple of things and would really appreciate your help on this, since I know there are a LOT of analysts/associates & other finance/consulting professionals on this forum..
1) so first I'd like to know the meal allowances of most of your firms..(could be BB, boutiques, PE firms, consulting firms, law firms) 2) a rough estimate of the employee strength of professionals (in your respective office buildings/floors) staying past 7pm and ordering delivery only from outside restaurants 3) companies/ divisions of banks with majority of employees that stay later than 7pm such as i-banking, wealth management, Asset Management etc
if any of you could spare a few minutes posting information regarding the topics above, i'd really appreciate it! again - this is just a survey, so throwing in a rough idea is fine.
THANKS!
