What is your Opinion About Virtual Reality
With 2016 highlighted last year as the "Year of Virtual Reality," much has developed within the industry. While experts have been quick to highlight the series of VR launches as a flop, I think that in reality the bar of expectations was simply set way to high. On the contrary, I think that VR is a tech item that will continue to develop and excel in the coming years. However, for now prices remain high and options for games are limited. An article on Reuters Article Link highlighted the issues of costs currently:
Lee of Deloitte UK.Sales of high-end VR headsets including Facebook Inc's (FB.O) $599 Oculus Rift and Sony Corp's (6758.T) $399 PlayStation VR headset altogether will be about 300,000, reflecting supply constraints at Sony and the technological reality of Oculus and HTC Corp's (2498.TW) $799 Vive: only about 6 million to 7 million computers globally can run the software, said Paul"With high-end VR for a family of four one might be looking at $10,000," said Lee.
Personally, I plan on waiting for prices to come down and more game options to come out before I purchase anything. Has anyone else tried out VR or have an opinion on the future development of the industry? Which companies do you think will have the winning product?
I think it's a hoax created by China
WSO looks so much better in virtual reality than in real reality
I'll have to check it out once VR becomes more affordable.
I remember growing up my parents told me not to sit too close to the TV so that I don't ruin my eyes. Now tech companies want me to hold a phone 2 inches in front of my face. Am I missing something?
Don't worry all of the lawyers have ensured its safety. You might run into a wall or get motion sickness though.
They also told you to eat according to the food pyramid
Depending how old you are: smoking is good for you
Your parents were just telling you bullshit
I think VR although fascinating and if properly used can be an instrumental teaching and learning tool as well as fun, will have pretty significant negative effects on our country / society. I think living in a virtual world ie. the Sims / Instagram etc. will only be exacerbated by the introduction of fully immersive VR, and people will begin to struggle separating the real from the virtual, not in a physical way, but an emotional / happiness way. Kind of how people love to perceive happiness through social media platforms
You are probably right, but do you think it will be worse than the crowd that already uses video games as an escape? Will more people be effected or would it just effect the current video game crowd in a worse manner?
VR and AR are going to be amazing. What it can do in its infancy is already impressive. Excited for the possibilities.
Also, $400-$700 for a piece of new tech isn't expensive.
I am pretty excited too, though I am waiting for a few years to pass before I really look into it. I am lucky, my brother loves tech and always gets everything when its released, so I just wait for him to let me know once it is good enough that I should get it.
It's going to increase the sales of both fleshlights and eyeglasses.
Lol. So is there a good company to invest in to make money off this increase of sales then.
Virtual Reality and Finance: A revolutionary marriage? (Originally Posted: 10/23/2015)
The issue
Honestly, excepting bankers, wealth managers, and so on, virtually everyone finds finance to be dry and boring. I mean, print outs splattered with numbers, graphs, tables and paragraphs don’t exactly narrate a thriller.
Virtual Reality and Applications
But what if Virtual Reality could make finance, as a whole, more immersive and vivid?
Instead of stepping out of your house and making the trek to your local bank branch to have a conversation with your advisor, what if you could simply put on your VR headset, talk with your financial advisor? This way, the advisor could still show you all numbers, charts, and graphs yet in a much more vivid and interactive method.
What if, instead of viewing your portfolio as a list of investments on your trading portal, you could view all your holdings as towers in a city? That is what Fidelity is trying with “Stock City”. In this “city”, the architecture of the landscape will change based on Wall Street’s volatility. The heights of the building will be proportional to the price of a stock, and the width will be based on the units of that stock the user owns. It will be daytime when the market is open, and night will fall upon the close of the market. A rally will cause the sun to shine, and a fall will cause it to rain.
Investment Bankers could use Virtual Reality to create graphical representations to walk through clients on the stages of their deals and give them, quite literally, an overall picture of the deal, where they stand and the stages to closing. Think about how better Financial Restructuring Groups could explain the entire restructuring process to their clients with vivid graphics.
The Millennials
Such innovations could allow financial institutions to attract millennials and invoke more of a financial interest in them. For instance, the mundane task of explaining the relatively dry terms of student loans could be transformed into a more visual and interactive task. Retirement planning could no longer be a wholly complicated and arduous undertaking.
Hence, the applications of Virtual Reality within the field of finance seems quite vast.
But, will it happen?
Needless to say, however, this technology is years from coming to fruition.
Moreover, there is a likelihood that VR could actually flop within the field of finance. After all, unless you have an extremely sophisticated and evolved Artificial Intelligence engine, the human component of the VR-finance-experience is unlikely to mimic any real human interaction and, consequently, dispel any sense of familiarity amongst users. The same goes for the graphics and visual experience.
So, fellow monkeys, what do you guys think? Does Virtual Reality hold the power to invigorate the financial field and make it a more visual and immersive field? Or, will finance lend itself to other innovations? Thanks for reading!
Although I agree with your idea that VR will be big, I don't think it will into "invigorate the financial field"....instead it's applications into media, entertainment, healthcare and gaming will likely just make a very few of us who have been following the developments of the industry...extremely wealthy. I'm not going to detail how or why this will happen...mainly because I want to keep any info on the industry...to myself. If you want a small glimpse of VR's potential to disrupt...look up Project Morpheus.
I don't think this is necessarily the best way of leveraging virtual reality for finance, but I do agree that VR has enormous potential, and is certainly one of the top 10 technologies to look out for going forward. It's crazy to think that the world of Matrix might become reality soon.
