Please elaborate - what do you mean by being aggressive? If by aggressive you mean seeking out other channels through which you can meet people (going to networking events, cold emailing, etc) then yes, be aggressive. Otherwise, I don't think anyone likes to deal with an aggressive or pushy person.

Check out Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People.

"The sun can make you take off your coat more quickly than the wind; and kindliness, the friendly approach and appreciation can make people change their minds more readily than all the bluster and storming in the world."

Or in non-gay terms, 'you attract more flies with sugar than you do with shit.'

Yes, although I don't think Dale was gay.

Be tenacious in a very polite manner if that makes sense. Continue to follow up, knock on every door and be original.

One of my good friends wanted badly to break into banking but happened to go to a complete non target. There was a company (top MM IB) that he was particularly interested and he did thorough due diligence in order to track down the lead recruiters information. He finally tracked down her name, number and email, but she failed to respond to any of his emails or calls. He was determined to get in touch with her so one day, he decided to just show up at the companys office, and had the receptionist call this lady down to the lobby. Many would find this over the top, but she was extremely impressed by his tenacity and interest in the firm. He later received an interview and final round offer and was recently promotion from analyst to associate.

Tenacity pays off, and if you dont ask you will never know.

This has been discussed TOO many times, and it isn't TOO hard to use the search bar. but yes, for europe their approach is too aggressive.
