What qualities are recruiters of AM and ER looking for?

What qualities are recruiters looking for in an AM/ER candidate? Attention to detail, able to work long hours, what else?

I am a recent undergrad graduate from a good but not target school (Boston University) and my only experience is not finance related, in Operations Management and some retail jobs, so I need to spin them and figure out what aspects of them are most relevant.

Thank you very much for all help

A few big things: 1. Interest in the markets (both macro themes and knowledge about individual companies) 2. Technical ability (modeling, general finance and accounting knowledge, etc) 3.You should have a few good stock pitches 4. An ability to think creatively so you can help create interesting, differentiated research 5. Writing skills (for sell-side equity research) 6. Of course, you should come across as likable and intelligent

While attention to detail and the ability to work long hours are important, I think that it is pretty much assumed that you can do that. I guess that attention to detail is always important, but the hours aren't that bad in research and AM, so that definitely shouldn't be on the top of the list of qualities that you are trying to emphasize. Those sound more like qualities that would be important in banking.
