What to specialize, equities, commodities, currencies or fixed income
Hi,
I have just gotten a job at a great FX brokerage firm. within 18 months, I will be a trader, although becoming a trader would be great, I am still not completely sure about my career aspiration and currently exploring different alternatives.
What I do know is that I love investment & Trading, I love dealing with the <span class='keyword_link'><a href="/resources/skills/trading-investing/financial-markets">financial markets</a></span> and would like to use my analytical and problem solving abilities to make money in the markets. However I have no strong preference for any specialization between equities, <span class='keyword_link'><a href="/resources/skills/trading-investing/what-is-fixed-income-FI">fixed income</a></span>, commodities or currencies, My preference for them drift without strong conviction. Can anyone tell me what its like to be involved in different industries? what are the pro & Cons of each? what about money making potentials?

You just got a job, so focus on doing well there. Learn as much as you can about FX in the next 18 months and find out if you like it. If the firm is as good as you say it is then doing well there will open up many doors in the future.
thanks for the advice, I am doing everything I can with my current job, but there is nothing wrong with setting an overall direction and planning ahead, anyone else can give some inputs on what its like working in equities Vs commodities or currencies and fixed income?
