What's the Worst Place You've Ever Worked?
Hi guys! I was hanging with a group of close friends, most of them work in finance and a few on tech and we were sharing stories about the worst places we've ever worked.
So I was wondering if you guys had some interesting stories!
For me, it was when I worked as an analyst in one of the big two rating agencies.
Even though everyone says that rating agency work has no real pressure, our office (I'm in Brazil, btw) was horrible. Everyday there would be at least one person crying in some room, no one was enthusiastic about their job and the work just plain sucked. Literally every month someone would quit and go someplace better so we always had to make up for the guy that left. I think that my boss, even though sometimes she was very sweet, had some kind of social anxiety problem so you couldn't have a normal conversation with her. It was just emotionally draining. I would come home wanting to die because of another crappy day in the office.
Now I work in an IB boutique and even though I work much longer hours and still meet some crazy/not nice people, I love doing this, specially compared to that job. I guess it's really true that it is better to do something you're interested in for 14 hours than have a 9-5 job that just sucks.
Bank teller in my early college years. Holy shit that sucked.
JP Morgan
I've been a busboy at Chili's, worked in a factory doing the most repetitive shit you could imagine, and did hard labor (all in high school). None of those places made me want to kill myself like JP Morgan did. What a bunch of unethical assholes.
Really? How come, what happened to you in there?
Current back office Job. I have sent the exact same emails at the same time 5 days a week for the past year. Everyday is exactly the same. I can't imagine a more repetitive and depressing place to work at. I've seen people quit after 2 weeks, a month, 2 months...I had to put in my two weeks in the other day or else I would slip deeper into insanity.
Good for you. Hope you find a better job. I've never done it, but I think backoffice must suck ass.
Worked in operations before. Decided to make them fire me BC parental pressure kept me from quitting. Then I told my parents I quit. Weird, I know.
It truly is an awful experience. I talked it over with my parents too and they obviously didn't want me to quit, but I had to do it. How did you make them fire you?
OccultFinancier Would not recommend. I'll find a better job, it just may take some time.
working as a bar back at a hugely popular sports bar a few summers ago was by far the worst and best job I've ever had. I hated it so much I wanted to drive off a cliff, but ever since then I got about a 3.8 gpa and worked my ass off that much harder just so I never had to do that kind of shit again

Curious as to why a bartender job sucked? Clean a lot of puke in the after-hours?
It's the most popular sports bar in the city I'm in, so it was always packed. I was a bar back though, so my job was literally just to carry kegs and bottles and large food orders to drunk assholes all night. Taught me though to always respect hospitality workers, it's a tough job and they work hard
Think you're better able to answer that one
I worked at a Hollywood Video back in h.s. and we kept getting robbed at gunpoint. It was super sketchy and there was a point in the summer when you kinda thought, shit, those mf'ers are gonna try to rob us again today. Turned out it was a couple of employees that hit all the Hollywood Video's in the area since they knew the ins-and-outs of our cash management/ security camera setups. But yeah, that sucked.
Best job came the summer before that, Baskin Robbins! Holy shit that job was awesome... Nonstop cappuccino concentrate shots, competitions to see who could stay locked in the walk-in freezer the longest, and hooking up lots and lots of friends and hot girls with free ice cream! Incredible experience overall... I guess I did only make $5.25/hr. though, so there's that.
