When Bankers CC you...
Hi everyone,
Quick question: when someone refers you to one of their contacts, do you "reply all" and say thanks to whoever referred you and then direct the conversation to the person they referred to you i.e. "thanks XX, I appreciate it - hope all is well" Then: ""Hi Referral XX, I was wondering if you'd be able to speak with me about XX and how you did XX"
OR
Reply to the referrer in a separate email, and Reply to your new contact in a new email.
Appreciate any feedback.
I work in sales with Bankers but get passed off from MD's to associates and analysts frequently.
I generally look at it as them removing themselves from the conversation so I will usually reply within the chain directly to the person i've been referred to(exclude the referral but keep them on the original chain). I then usually send a quick thank you to the MD separately and carry on the conversation.
Hope that helps.
Thank you sir!
just bcc them on the response. 'thanks xyz rainmaker. moving you to bbc.' then they get naturally dropped going forward.
good to know, was literally just thinking "what the hell does bcc mean?" Thank you.
Bbc is helpful when you want to take someone out of the loop. When the referrer is done with his/her job, there is no need to receive future communication (unless you think it's the case).
