where do 1st year S&T live?

I am finishing my senior year at a non target and was lucky enough to get a FT offer. Where do young people live in Manhattan and what is reasonable to spend on rent? I know I am a little ahead of the ball here but I am curious.

I thought about hells kitchen, upper west side (70+) for 1 Bedroom.

Thanks!

I live in Lincoln Center. Full-service studios go for 2250ish. Give or take. Walk ups slightly cheaper. The further north you go the cheaper. With a bit of luck you could get a legit 1 bd in the 90s for 2k. Rare, but possible.

That's what I was thinking. Is it worth it to hire an apartment broker to help find a place? I only care about being close to a subway for a short commute and have a real bedroom. I guess I also do not want too far north aka Harlem. has anyone had success with craigslist in Manhattan or is it not worth it?

A broker will definitely have inventory that is private; however, you will obviously have to pay a broker fee, but they are negotiable. Corcoran and Elliman usually have the most. A legit studio should be at least 500 sq ft. Anything smaller and it's going to be tight, but it all depends on personal preferences.

I've been in the are for over 10 years and used to live on 97th and CPW in a glorious full service studio that was huge. It was too far north for me and now there is a TON of development up there which I think ruined the area. I love Lincoln Center and you're close to the 1,2,3, C and B so you can pretty much get anywhere.

Some good brokers in addition to the above are Brown Harris Stevens and Fenwick Keats. Craigslist is definitely worth a look too. Just be sure to get the broker fee conversation done and over with ahead of time and make sure expectations are matched. If they ask you to pay just for a search tell them to fuck off.

Hope this helps.
