Where do most finance expats live in Hong Kong
Hey Guys,
I am an Asian-Canadian in my third year university and I will be doing an IB internship in HK starting in July till the end of August. I really wonder which area do most finance expats live in Hong Kong?
Location is my first priority, I wish it could be close to work or at least close to MTR and also in a safe neighbourhood; any room/studio size above 150 sqft is considerable. Since the office is in Central, I am looking for places around Sheung Wan/Central areas. However I do realize the rent is ridiculously expensive. I wonder what is the house hunting experience for you guys was like when you were looking for accommodation? What kind of resources/websites did you guys use? Do you guys happen to know any one who is still looking for a roommate?
It doesn't really matter to be honest. Hong Kong is so small in terms of land area that you can stay in numerous areas and still be close to work. On the Island, Sheung Wan's solid . There are a lot of entrepreneurs setting up cool little coffee shops and galleries. Wan Chai is also popular with junior people. Even out towards Causeway Bay and Island East is decent. Being around Hollywood Road all the time and working in Central can get to be a bit much after awhile.
On the dark side, TST, Olympic, etc, these places are still only 10-15 minutes from the office.
There are a bunch of Real Estate Operators with serviced studios you should check out. If you want to have roommates you could maybe stretch your budget to include mid-levels.
Load up on the condoms bro~ helluva ride over there.
Thanks a lot! I am trying to use Wimdu and Craglist...studio is my best bet, cuz it seems a bit late to look for roommates....the rent in HK is so expensive! For non-shared places, it is hard to get those not-too-sketch ones under HKD9000/month....
Lol rent in HK IS the highest in the world after all. Good luck, just make sure you find one with quality air conditioning.

Yeah I find the property market in HK almost humorous. An extra 50 feet costs thousands of dollars... And the more affordable areas are OMG ten minutes walk from the expensive ones.
Forget about finance, start the next Wimdu. I believe that girl's an HK native
