Which interesting company to analyze?
Hi all! I am submitting an application for an ER position and my contact told me to stand out by submitting a brief analysis of any company without going into too much math. I'm thinking of doing something like SWOT, comps, targets, technicals, recommendation.
Can you recommend an interesting and less known company that I can tackle? Or ideas on how this one pager should be put together? Thanks in advance.
Carriage Services Inc. (CSV)
I think STON would be MUCH more interesting.
Try Xero.
They make cloud accounting software so easy to use that you could recruit a high schooler to manage the portfolio of a VC (no joke). Xero's been bumping in every geographical region, with over 100% growth.
I would highly recommend including some valuation work in your submission. Additionally, read a research report of the company you are pitching. Note the tone and the format/structure of ideas.
I would go with a company that u r familiar and interested in, of which u have an understanding of their business model.
Going with a no name company can be a good option, but u could get drilled if whoever interviews u happens to know the company.
do NOT pick something in their sector. they will know it way better than you and you'll likely get embarrassed. do not pick something commodity sensitive, do not pick something requiring an advanced degree (biotech), don't analyze what everyone else is analyzing (aapl, tsla, nflx, fb, amzn), don't pick a conglomerate (tyco, berkshire, etc.), don't pick a bank, and be sure it's something you can get good info on (not a pink sheet stock).
couple ideas:
funeral: sci firearms: rgr auto: orly, azo, bwa chemicals: cc, dd, ecl technology: ingenico (trades in paris), ctsh
at the same time, I wouldn't pick a company I wouldn't invest in, so if it were me, I'd run a screen through joel greenblatt's magic formula (essentially ROIC and low valuation) and target larger mid cap names, pick one of those, and go for it.
