I don't wear anything on my wrists. I stopped wearing one last year as I was kickboxing every night.

Broken Guess watch that I got for my birthday one year. Hasn't worked for at least a year. Gives the appearance that I'm wearing a metal-linked watch, nothing fancy. Honestly no one apart from watch enthusiasts give a shit, and a watch enthusiast will take a passing glance out of the corner of their eye and leave it at that.

I look at my phone when I want to see the time.

Why don't you get it fixed? Just as a matter of personal pride or personal upkeep / professionalism. I don't see how this is different than having a hole or a stain on your shirt and continuing to wear it. Your watch doesn't need to be anything fancy but you shouldn't be wearing broken stuff. You would be much better off with nothing at all.

i hate watches. i wear a fitbit

I hate watches and fitbit. I wear the blood of my opponent.

The Tissot looks nice. I'd just stop by at a local shop and try a few watches. Have a look at how it fits your wrist and personality, and how it complements your (business) outfit.

I'd save up until you can afford something in the $2,000 - $3,000 range. You will have a number of nicer options that will last you forever (or until you trade up). Those watches will also keep their value much more than a $500-$800 watch.

I'm not a big fan of either of those you linked OP. But that's because the Tissot logo seems really big and that's not me - then the Certina lacks the "it" factor. (Again these are just personal opinions, still completely up to you!)

Also, I know you said you prefer leather straps but if you get sweaty easily you'll ruin that strap!

I'll try and post some ones later that fit what you're looking for, I'm a bit rushed for time right now :)

At this price level, don't ask for advice- get the one you like. They are all great watches.

Between these four models, I really like the Cartier Ballon. Looks really powerful.

If you want something a bit more understated/formal, I like the baume, but with a black strap. Normally I'd go for the breitling, but I don't dig gold accents on watches. Personal preference.

Nothing wrong with the tank, I just don't like square watches.

As I said, it's all about your own tastes.

I like the Ballon in pictures, but it didn't have the same wow factor for me in person.

Out of the 4, I say B&M. I don't like the gold on the Breitling. To each their own...

At those price points there's a couple other brands worth viewing (maybe moreso than the ones you've provided in terms of being recognized or 'more prestigious' watchmakers). I'm curious if you've narrowed down your list on brand preference or just looks...

I vote the B&M or the Ballon.

Cartier Tank always seems like a woman's watch to me, dunno why.

I like Breitling in general but that one looks odd to me for some reason.

There have been many great comebacks throughout history. Jesus was dead but then came back as an all-powerful God-Zombie.

I have a number of watches, some are nice I have 2 Omega Seamasters, My Grandfathers from the 50s and a Planet Ocean Chronograph. I have a Cartier gold tank, a Bulova chrono, an automatic Gucci Pantera, a crap Invicta, and a bunch of other lesser watches. I wear them everyday. Hamilton is doing great job as well. I'm a big fan.

Current: Gold Citizen Eco drive with a brown leather strap Next: Panerai Radiomir, Tag Dream: Either a Patek, Vacheron Constantin, or Jaeger LeCoultre thats gold with a leather strap

Don't break yourself on the way to making yourself

Alternate between multiple Citizen Eco Drives, JLC Master Réserve de Marche for extremely formal occasions. Gotta hold off until I get a couple of promotions to actually wear it to work

What I wear: Rolex - Datejust - silver and white gold bezel/jubilee bracelet. Vintage piece Rolex - Daytona - white dial, ceramic (116500) A Lange & Sohne - Saxonia - thin 37mm released about a year ago now (?)

What I want next: Patek Philippe - Nautilus - 5711/1A-010...don't get me started on this one and the recent craze around it. Pains me that they are hiking the prices 20% on this and the steel 5712 starting March 1. Fairly certain my turn for one was coming this year but that hike is really testing me on how bad I want it A Lange & Sohne - Lange 1 - white gold.

Unfortunately there just isn't a ton that really excites me below the $25K range these days. I will never grow to love the "patisserie" dial pattern on AP Royal Oaks as much as I respect the historical significance of the watch. Current "affordable" VC collection simply doesn't catch my eye. I've never been a big fan of the other professional/tool watches from Rolex, although I can certainly appreciate the versatility of something like a GMT II. I have a ton of respect for the Skydweller too, but I have smaller wrists and that is simply too much watch for me.

"Dream" watches is a whole separate conversation!

Thanks!

I haven't had a chance to actually see the Lange 1 Platinum in person - only the white gold. I'm focused on the WG version since it has a very similar aesthetic with the white dial (plus the lumens are a bonus from my perspective) at a more reasonable price point. My only concern with them is how well they retain their value. I've seen and read plenty about deep discounts on ALS in the used/grey market. It's a bit of an oddity to me since their annual production is so limited and they seem to have a rather devout following of fans/collectors.

Seiko Sistem 51 for a daily driver. It's nice enough for the prestige guys from the distance they look at it at, and neat enough for the watch geeks. I replaced a Seiko 6138 "UFO" that I waited too long to get serviced with it.

For fancy events? A '62 Seamaster day/date. Servicing is just too expensive to wear it every day.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Quite sure I will be mocked, but I have a (massive) Seiko Prospex Marine Master Kinetic Dive watch that I have work for years. I actually go diving in it, mountain climbing, ect and it is completely invincible. Not even a tiny scratch on the sapphire crystal.

The kinetic movement features and automatic movement that charges up a battery. So, you get quartz movement 'ticks' with 100% accuracy, and never have to change the battery. That involves disassembling the case, which compromises waterproofing (which is >1000 ft)
