Which program should I choose? Northwestern (CS) OR JHU (MSF)

I am an international student (I need Visa to work in the USA). I earned a bachelor degree in the USA. My major is finance. I have been admitted to 7 programs. From 7 programs, I prefer master science of finance in Johns Hopkins University and master science of computer science in Northwestern University. Which program would you choose if you were me?

Johns Hopkins University has a very good ranking (#11 in the global ranking). However, this is a new program. There are lots of negative and positive feedback for this program from the Chinese students. Some of the courses that I will learn from this program are similar to the courses in my college. It is said there were about 350 students in the program last year. Therefore, it is not very hard to get in. So, what do you think of this program. What is the reputation of this university?

Northwestern University has a relatively low ranking (#34 in the global ranking). From this program, I may learn more new knowledge because I have very limited computer science background. And it is easier for me to find a job in the USA. However, due to my limited computer science background, I am not sure I can take care of my study in the program since I heard this program is very busy. And I am not sure whether a MS Computer Science degree is helpful for my business career or not. What do you think of this program? What is the reputation of this university?

I still consider finance as my career. If I choose the computer science, I will still find a job related to finance. Do you think I should take the computer science program to enhance my programming background or take the finance program to have a good name? In addition, for the ranking, should I care about the ranking? Which ranking should I consider (for example: US News or QS or THE)?

What kind of job can I find if my background is finance (bachelor) + computer science (master)? What about finance(bachelor) + finance(master)? How does these two major change my career path?

Which program will you choose if you were me?

I really appreciate your help.

you might as well list the other 5 programs you admitted.

Don't discount Northwestern that much... their business school is within the M7 elite group and ~10th ranked for any reputable MBA ranking.

is the CS degree in McCormick? If you earn that degree, what jobs do you plan to get? It's a good question to ask yourself about.

Have you heard that JHU carey has a large international student intake or not?

I don't think I can be much help to your problem--you cannot rely on rankings to measure the programs.

if JHU MSF has same courses like your UG, why can't you try to find a job now with just undergrad (UG ranking issue)? otherwise, wouldn't you take JHU for the alumni network for jobs? Besides, JHU Carey is a new b-school, but JHU itself is very selective and prestigious..... 350 students doesn't mean it's less selective......many top master's program have that quantity, especially for MBAs.

WUSTL Olin Global MSF will be fine if you want to return to Asia for jobs....you won't get a job in the US because you won't get an OPT for ~3 months in USA.

Northwestern & McCormick will give you a strong network. With that said though, You won't get Kellogg B-school's resources. I don't think anyone can help you answer whether (1) you can handle the coursework or not, or (2) whether CS for financial industry is a good choice or not

if you ask @TNA" about the program you were admitted for Villanova, you might get some more help

You've made a mistake to chase rankings for your applications, and it's too late to correct for applications. However, you're fortunate enough to have a few offers to consider. You should check each program's exit opportunities as a BIG factor for your final decision.

Congrats, my advice: go for Northwestern (CS) and learn more about the financial industry as there are plenty of options available for CS background. Plus you can always leverage the Northwestern brand.

In terms of MSF ranking: wustl > nova > carey > others. If you wanted to land a gig in Chicago and southern region go for WUSTL; mid-Atlantic villanova > carey (since less student and alumni network extends outside of Baltimore/DC area).

I got accepted to JHU as well but not the other schools. As far as I have heard, there are a couple of downsides to carey: 1. Large program size and majority international (hearing 400+ this year) 2. Average alumni network (JHU UG better reputation and alumni) 3. 60K+ is no joke

Maybe guyfromct can weigh in on this as well.

P.S. Do change your profile name.

WUSTL Global MSF spends 9 months in singapore--low chance for job recruits and almost no chance for internationals
