Nobody cares about any of those schools frankly. If you're serious about Banking then look elsewhere. However, if these are your only options, pick Vanderbilt I guess.

False. Vandy - Semi-target. please don't give false advice considering you don't know anything GS DB JPM ML MS Lehman Public Finance Lazard Public Finance MS Menlo Park BofA Wachovia and a bunch of top MM's recruit at Vandy

They all interview anywhere between 12-25 people for usually 3-4 positions

Sure, but they're still a semi-target.

any other inputs? this is really confusing...it seems like i should def cut jhu off the list...im still unsure of washu vs vandy. WashU's rep is certainly improving (#12 undergrad in usnews...better than some ivys). However, it seems like vandy might have more cred on wall street. Agree?

Go to Vandy

Nashville > St. Louis SEC Girls w/ above 1400 SAT > Midwestern Girls w/ above 1400 Always 70s - 80s degrees > 40s - 60s at St. Louis

In summary, there are legitimate reasons to choose Vandy over XYZ Ivy League school, but not so many for choosing Wash U over Ivy.

US News is FAR from perfect. You seriously think that WUSTL is mroe selective and has smarter students than: Cornell, Northwestern, BROWN, and Rice? Everybody knows WUSTL is a fucking joke.

People, listen up: for the idiots who like to say that "any ole top 25 college will do the trick" to the young kids who want a job in IB, this thread is a perfect example of why it is not so cut and dry. There are plenty of good schools, but unless every bulge-bracket firm is visiting a campus each year, it isn't really a wall st feeder.

I suggest you go to Vandy, and start contacting alums early on so that by the time you are looking for an internship you have some guys in the industry who have known you longer than a week.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Wash U was one of the schools that I got into, that I strongly considered. The kids they get there are just as smart/talented as HYPS believe it or not, the way they lure them is by giving ridiculous financial aid/scholarships to any student that it wants. Two of my friends go there, one got a full ride and the other got 3/4 ride; one got into Yale, waitlisted at Stanford and the other got into Duke, Cornell and Georgetown.

Its med school is 1/2 with Harvard and a lot of its schools are ridiculously highly rated. I'm an econ major and WashU has consistently been a top 10 econ school for the past 5 years.

After all that, I don't think it is a target school at all, have no idea who recruits there, etc. but purely speaking about the student body based on the people I know there and people I've talked to, it is a really good school. By "Everybody know WUSTL is a fucking joke" who does that mean? 6 high school kids sitting in their basements, posting on Internet forums? Get real, the USNews rankings are pretty static and for that school to rise up that fast is pretty impressive.

WU has been top 15 for at least 10 years now. I wouldn't call that gaming the system. Vandy has been consistently dropping. BTW, Vandy is a great school, Nashville is more fun than STL, and the women are ridiculous, but WU is the better institution. You'll leave WU with a more geographically diverse network(friends with friends in high places in NYC and other cities), not just friends from the Confederate states.

Why not just go to a target school(if you can get in WU you can get into a target)? Or call the career centers and ask what firms hired analysts this year and how many did they hire.

Also, if you get in Yale and go to WU, you're a dick.

Uhhhh, are you stupid? Vandy has been RISING for the past 10 years and has been 18th and 19th for the past 5 years. Rice has been dropping.

WUSTL plays the system by artificially dropping its acceptance rate, and that matters a lot for US News. They do this by sending tons of mail to suckers who think they can get in, but have no chance in hell. When I was applying to colleges half of my class applied to WUSTL and something else and a lot of the people who applied there had 1100 SAT and 3.7 HS GPA. That's why they have such a low acceptance rate

I'm starting to get the feeling vandy is the way to go. I'm actually applying to one year masters programs in finance. I'm an engineer from a target, and only realized this year that I wanted to get into sales and trading. Since I didnt apply to full time jobs during the year, I'm hoping this degree will help me to land a gig. I'm interning with a HF over the summer, and have been learning alot about finance/markets the last few months.

btw...i talked to the career center at washu...the lady told me that alot of banks recruit at the school but washu isnt a core target for any of them and their repo on the street "isnt where they want it to be."
