Whiny Babies At Yahoo

So Marissa Mayer is shaking things up. I understand what she is doing. You need your people around. A general needs to gather the troops before he leads them in battle. Unfortunately for Marrisa, her troops are lazy and soft.

I love the outcry at the idea that you have to actually go into work. You have mothers getting all upset about this also as if this is a direct attack on women. Little do they realize that having a child is their CHOICE and there are plenty of options to allow them to work and still be a good mother. This is Yahoo, not a factory.

Thoughts? I am cheering her on. Get rid of the deadwood and get some hungry people back in there.

It's not a big surprise that they're pissed they have to drive to the office. These people are fucking challenged, their company is on its last legs.

OP is either satire or a caveman.

Complete sentence?

Fail to see how I think actually going into a workplace is that drastic. This is Yahoo. I am sure they will have a more reasonable and flexible work force than many places. If you choose to have kids you will deal with some difficulties. Yahoo is going through a restructure and needs to have asses in the seats.

I like what she is doing.

If you wish to chide me for failing to construct a complete sentence, then perhaps your paragraph shouldn't have so many mistakes.

OilBaron:
It is called work for a reason. There should be the ability for work from home when sick or during natural disasters (if possible) but otherwise, get your ass into the office.

Unnecessary in many cases. Yahoo is one of the cases where it is necessary, it seems. Getting your ass in the office is a lot more applicable in something like banking then for a financial analyst at an F500.

I don't see the need to cheer this on. I know a decent amount of people that do a lot of work remotely (only going to the office 2 - 3 days a week) and get more done than people who spend every day in the office. If anything, the people I know that work remotely end up doing more work than they ever would in an office (starting earlier and ending later, etc. etc.)

This might be a first but I think I'm going to disagree with TheKing here and agree with ANT. It seems to be common knowledge at this point that the Yahoo culture is absolute crap. Tons of employees have come out of the woodwork in the wake of this news supporting the change - apparently there are a bunch of freeloaders hanging around on the payroll.

I think if you have a strong culture, good management and a suitable business model, working from home can add to productivity and employee satisfaction. I just don't think that's the case at Yahoo right now. See below.

Pigs will be flying next...

I am sure Yahoo is going to still be family friendly, but shit, the ship is sinking and people need to get to work and fix things.

I agree with you OP. So sick of this stuff. It's almost like businesses can't be businesses anymore, that's it is now illegal for a business to lose money, and that completely neutral, necessary, and logical policies are now deemed discriminatory. /end rant.

Scumbag boss bans working from home, but builds a nursery in her office for her own kids.

Sure there are perks to being the boss, but that's taking the piss.

Did anyone else read who she was bouncing up and down on when she worked at google?

yeah that shit is ridiculous. i hope her office is isolated because fucked if anyone wants to deal with a whining kid thats not theirs

I can see being upset if you signed the contract to work there with the understanding that you would be allowed to WFH for a day or two a week. If I planned on watching my kid Monday and Tuesday or something and now I cant I would be pissed. That said, this really only applies to people in support type roles. If you're in prod dev or something similar, go to work.

If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses - Henry Ford
