Who are the yuppies of 2014?

When we think of yuppies, we all think of Patrick Bateman, suit and tie wall street banker who enjoys luxurious apartments and restaurants from the 1980s. But is that really still a thing in 2014? Seems like the yuppies of today are techies who dress like hipsters.

when i think of yuppies....i do not think of patrick bateman. i think of bankers/consultants that make useless power points and excels for corporations and get paid way too much money for the value that they provide because of social conventions. Since when were yuppies hobo murderers?

Today's yuppies are very often techies who dress like hipsters. A fair amount of finance/consulting types also run the hipster facade in their offtime, and it's a little strange. As for Bateman, he wasn't a yuppie LOL

Young and upwardly mobile professionals = yuppies. Based on my memories of the 80s, yuppies were resented because they had professional careers, cash and youth, but often questionable taste and social mores.

In Australia, the closest modern equivalent I can think of is cashed up bogans, which aren't all that close to yuppies.

In the US, perhaps helicopter parents, particularly the noveau riche type? Or maybe cocky models and bottles type bankers, the type who Occupy Wall Street protestors like to resent.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.
