Why do women get to keep the house?

As stated in another thread, I recently started watching Breaking Bad. Been on a marathon and recently started the third season, where (SPOILER ALERT) Walt gets ''kicked'' out of the house by his wife.

This is very common. Any of you older monkeys care to explain why these things happen if we are the ones who go to work, set up the mortgage, and make the payments year after year?

This is a good read The Limit for Makeup and Heels but no takers.

Anyway, to answer the question judges will always favor women in divorce settings. Suppose there's no children, they still get the house, car, everything. In community property states women get 50% of assets even when they came in/contributed with nothing and were married for two months.

Winners bring a bigger bag than you do. I have a degree in meritocracy.

Do you see this changing down the road as we move to a more "equal" society. I mean, hell, women always say they want equal treatment and what not. That is until it comes to shit like this then they'll pull the gender card.

No one said marriage is necessary.

It's because men derive more utility from the relationship.

I think the best answer is the one regarding custody of the kids and not uprooting them. The objective is not to force them to move to a new school district and make new friends.

Do I think this will change? On a whole, no. However, I do think we're going to start to see a trend towards fewer people marrying, or at least not marrying as young. Our generation is generally more adaptable than previous generations and more prone to moving around a lot, be it cities, jobs, relationships, etc. Particularly when you take into consideration that women are now out looking for not just jobs but careers as well, the percentage of the U.S. population that is single ought to increase. That's just my theory though.

Just refinance the house before you get divorced and bury the money in a hole somewhere. She can keep the house as if some mortgages property is an asset.

Get a prenup people or at least see the writing on the wall and preemptively strike. Too many guys are caught with their dick in their hand, so to speak.

Great answers, seems like everyone is more civilized than me on this regard. On a side note, is anybody else waiting for Eddie's response?

People like to assume women are vulnerable and need to be protected. Mostly that is a just a big lie to give them advantages in things like this. Most women are real ball busters, they whine about everything.
