Why is Crowe Horwath Vault Top 10?
I was recently extended a business risk internship from Crowe Horwath for this upcoming summer. Vault says their S.O.A.R. program is the 9th best consulting internship in the US, but frankly I'm having trouble finding ANY recent information discussing their internships or consulting programs.
Moreover, I'm unsure if their risk advisory program even falls under the "consulting" umbrella Vault is talking about. My ultimate goal is to be in S&O and I can't tell if this internship will forward that or I'm just being mislead. Does anybody have any insight?
Apparently I don't have enough bananas to post links, but a quick google search of "vault top consulting internships" will yield the link I'm referencing
I looked at Vault's list, no McKinsey? No Oliver Wyman? 2 firms are regional accounting shops?
I can't speak for Crowe Horwath's programme but I previously interned in a Big 4 Risk Consulting group. It was of no relevance at all to S&O from what I could see, that said I was on one project for the duration.
Vault rankings aren't very useful in the management consulting industry for whatever reason. I'd suggest looking at these: http://www.caseinterview.com/top-consulting-firms
They're a bit outdated (Monitor has been bought, no Strategy&) but still a pretty good guideline from comparing internship offers.
To be frank, having an internship at an advisory / risk firm will not hurt. It doesn't have as much sway as say a straight consulting, even niche firms (think ZS) but it won't hurt. We just finalized our resumes and I would say maybe 1/4th had advisory / risk firms on their resume.
go by vault's prestige ranking
rest is bananas
Agree with BigPicture. The industry is changing rapidly; so are perceptions/firm states of health.
If you can, try and see if your school has access to the premium version of Vault so that you can get more information on why CH is ranked where it is.
Didn't know CH was ranked this well. I know they come to our campus; never even clicked.
My university does have premium access to Vault, though it doesn't appear it provides any additional info. All I could find was:
"Crowe offers the Success-Opportunities-Achievement-Results (SOAR) internship program to top-achieving students at univerities across the U.S. The firm offers a summer and winter/spring program, which both run approximately 10 weeks, depending on the specific business unit (BU). SOAR begins with firm and BU orientation and provides a well-rounded overview of Crowe's clients, work initiatives, culture, people and values. The interns are aligned to existing project teams to experience real industry work and direct client engagements. Interns have the opportunity to work closely with Crowe leaders at all levels and have immediate access to partners. They participate in information sessions led by firm leaders and enjoy various networking and team-building opportunities.
Due to the nature of accounting and consulting firm busy seasons, there are a couple differences between the summer and winter/spring programs. Summer interns participate in "SOAR Serves," a day of community service in which all interns across the firm volunteer at various local nonprofit organizations. Additionally, summer interns work in teams for an end-of-internship project to create a newsletter highlighting client engagements and other experiences during their time at Crowe. Winter/spring interns have the opportunity to experience an audit and tax busy season. Their projects have an increased focus on client work as they learn about and support the deadline processes to prepare for a full-time position in the role.
To further ensure the intern's development and experience, all interns have a performance manager and peer liaison to provide feedback and support throughout the program. SOAR provides an environment where students can build strong skills in the workplace and have real hands-on experience. Everyone at Crowe helps make SOAR a positive experience by providing guidance and answering students' questions throughout the internship. The internship program is the number one pipeline for full-time hires and Crowe experiences about a 90 percent acceptance rate. It is standard for our former interns to receive a starting bonus if they are offered and accept a full-time position with the firm."
One thing I find interesting is that, while they have a top 10 internship, their actual consulting practice isn't nearly as highly ranked. Not sure if that means this is a fluke, or if they're just known for rigorous interns.
