Mizuho Corporate Bank NY
Anyone know anything about them? Looking for more info on culture, reputation, exit ops, deal flow in the NY office.
I interviewed with them for SA but I still don't have a great feel for what they're all about.
Tried a search and couldn't find much. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks
^ How was the interview, federico? Was it mostly behavioral?
I also don't know too much about them.
mostly questions about my resume/past experience, only a handful of technicals and we ended up chatting pretty casually toward the end. have one coming up? if so, good luck to you
Federico - I interviewed with them recently for SA as well... I got a pretty good picture of the culture/rep/opps/deal flow from my interview. If I recall correctly, ~15% of staff in NY are expatriates so the Japanese culture is apparent here in NY but all staff speak business level english... Generally risk averse culture... Re: rep- one of the largest banks globally but medium-sized in US and growing. I was told that this gives interns tremendous advantage in regards to work exposure, deal flow, lat/vert communication. It def. sounded like a good opp. and I was particularly interested in Leveraged Finance area but I accepted a BB offer shortly after my interview after getting pressured, though the Mizuho recruiter did call me after to extend a invite to a Superday...
thanks JS, very helpful
How is their "Corporate Finance" position viewed if your end goal is investment banking? What exactly would you be doing?
SOudned like a great opportunity. They offer non-revenue-generating advisory on cap structures and financial strategy to their clients. The idea is they offer advice, while being product agnostic. They dont push clients to use high-fee products, but rather focus only on whats best for them. Its a way to solidify trust and client relationships.
Most banks have these groups, but they are relatively small. Its an amazing opportunity. You will being doing more analysis than pitching, and its a perfect setup for LBOs/PE. If you wanna be a BSD rainmaker in coverage at an investment bank, this is not what you want to do, however.

Any one have any good reason for why IB there?
Mizuho is not an investment bank...it's a commercial bank

Depends on the group and what your goals are. Give us some more information if you want meaningful feedback.
Nomura ain't got nothing on you guys. AKA Nomura blows
Posters that ask "why X?" on an internet forum do not deserve the internship. Talk to one person that works/has worked at the bank.
I usually don't disagree with people online because it is a waste of time: Although you make a solid point, it is 100% wrong. You can talk to a few people at a bank, but the more opinions you have of a bank the better off you are...
When I interviewed there, I said something about their massive balance sheet & willingness to lend to win business.
Take with a grain of salt, though. I didnt get the job lol
bump on reputation, exit ops, deal flow

Have an interview in a couple of days with them and I'd like to be prepared. I have been trying to get in touch with a pretty high up alum (both in person last month and now over the phone) but I don't think he'll be able to talk to me in time. I'm reaching out to random people via linkedin but the response rate is relatively low (as I'm sure many of you know).

Some good info in this thread. But I am a little confused at the fact that someone said it's not "true" coverage banking (they merged with someone in July 2013 so maybe that thread is dated?). My contact is a group head for a coverage group.
Interview is OCR at a non-target but it specifically said FO-roles and recruiting interns for: "corporate finance Advisory, Acquisition Finance, High Yield Loans, Project Finance, Securitization, Derivatives, and Commodity Finance".
Very vague description after that, so I really don't know what type of role I am interviewing for haha.
But was wondering if someone that is familiar with the bank could help me out.
Thanks!
Would like to know this as well
PM me
By description, I have the impression that you are interviewing with their corporate banking group. (?) It's just my reading, but it that's the case, Mizuho CB is a pretty standard CB in the US. Just search any CB interview and it will suffice.
I was contacted by this company and questioned if they were legit. I'm really glad i started working with them, my initial investment has paid off so quite happy.

Anyone work (or has worked) for their corporate finance or capital markets team? If so, are you willing to give an informational interview over the phone for a few minutes this weekend?
I have a superday coming up and would love to get some more info on the kind of deals that go through the north america offices.
Please no posts about project finance, they are no longer specializing in that field.
bump :(
I don't think they have many analysts, but trying anyways
I know this was a while ago but I'm interested to know how it went.

Anyone have experience with these guys at the NYC office? Just got an offer for an entry level role. Looking to eventually move into the sales/trading desk. I have heard mixed things, but nothing from anyone who has actually worked there. Ill be doing some back office with a lot of interaction with front office.
Just got a new hire who reports to me, she used to work out of there Hoboken office. I can try and get more information for you.
That would be awesome. Thanks for the offer to help.

Never heard of them.
Are they legit?
Are they legit? Do a little research, one of the biggest banks in Japan.
Sorry, let me rephrase.
Do you think their exit opps will be just as good as GS, JPM, DB, Citi, etc?
Yeah, you are going to need questions that are a little bit more specific if you want to get any useful responses.
