Why tech banking?
I have a phone call with a senior person at a bank and even though it may just be informational, I want to be sure I can answer the question why the technology industry vertical. Any recommendations on good responses/sources that can help me develop a few solid reasons?
Seriously?
^this, we aren't here to do your homework for you
you are young, meaning you grew up with and have always been fascinated by tech
you see more potential for growth in tech than other industries, tech capital markets are relatively hot right now
know that not all tech banking involves facebook and other digital media companies(big data, enterprise software, HCIT & Fin Tech)
since the companies are not all easily defined, valuation work is generally more creative (less traditional)
Talk up how tech is where the lion's share of innovation is taking place, and therefore offers constant learning and exposure to new ideas.
Tech companies also generally "cycle" faster. They go from venture to growth to mature to obsolete in the fraction of the time it takes a consumer / industrial / whatever co. Therefore they have more dynamic financing needs.
You could also mention that Tech is one of the industries in which the US maintains a competitive edge.
If you really want to suck up, talk about finance allocating capital efficiently, and that you feel that it is only natural for it to flow to the highest potential innovations.
But Mortimer is 100% right about not being all "OMG Facebook!" Your interviewer is more likely to be working with or obscure IT services or data storage than big name internet IPOs. Try Googling him before.
Dual track banking model (M&A and IPO exposure), exposure to a lot of smaller, high-growth companies (w/ recurring revenue) rather than pitching stagnant large companies, more client exposure (drafting sessions), etc. I would say software is the most interesting followed by internet ,electronics, and then semis.

What would you say if you were asked about "Why Tech sector compared to other industries?"
It's a simple question.. but also the most difficult question to craft in my opinion.
Thanks in advance for any inputs & advice!
If you have had some history working in the tech field such as an internship with a small VC, then it would be important to spin your reasoning behind that.
I would give a large overview of the industry and the attractive dynamics behind it, then get more granular with your own experiences and interests to make your story more personalized.
