Why the F*** is Bloomberg subscription so expensive?
Was looking around at subscriptions, or as bloomberg calls it 'terminal' and realized that it was close to $20,000 per year.
Does anyone have a subscription, if so, whats the big deal?

just torrent that shit and 3d print a terminal
It is very powerful. Bloomberg has to pay each exchange for data (you have to pay premium for real-time quotes) as well as to run operations for a huge platform that is continually growing.
I find Capital IQ better for IB (M&A) but for asset management/HFs/trading Bloomberg is the best (data aggregator of financial prices/econ #s, modeling, valuation tools, statistical analysis). Bloomberg has also been trying to build functions for VC/PE albeit they're still quite useless. Bloomberg chat also makes it inconvenient to switch to Capital IQ or Reuters. If there is one thing that pisses me off about BB is that the 3rd party vendors add-ins are way overpriced. The platform also isn't very user friendly.
When you work at a large firm the company gets a discount (depending on # of terminals and contract term... usually 2+ years). Unless you are super wealthy it is obviously not worth it as a retail investor. You can usually get a free trial for a month.
I'll echo this, huge resource when your dealing with a bunch of different securities in international markets, looking for financial info, etc. When I first got on it I couldn't believe all the information that was available.
It's worth it. Just not for the little guy.
My university had 12 of them in our "trading" room that we had classes in. Even with the discounts we were getting for being an educational institution the prices were insane, and so that maybe 30-40 kids could play on them for 7 months a year.
Think about how expensive research is...
simple, monopoly pricing.
Best source of data there is and for people it will actually make a worthwhile difference to, the 20k is pennies.
Bentley? I had a buddy who went there
No, Rowan University.
