Will MS Statistics help admission into MBA program?

Hi all,

I'm currently a 2nd year analyst for a insurance company but would like to continue my education. I graduated with a degree in Math/Actuarial with a 3.5 from a middle of the pack school. Ideally, I would pursue a MBA but it seems as though it's only worth it if you attend a top ranked school. Given my GPA is not that high nor do I have sufficient work experience would it help/hurt/do nothing for my application in the future if right now I went back for a MS is Applied Stats part-time?

Unfortunately, if I go back for my MS it will have to be from a regional school as there is not Part-time MS Stats from a big name school near by. Would this be another issue?

I do have genuine interest in furthering my stats knowledge/programming skills for what thats worth.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't necessarily think it will strengthen your application. Like if you have a 3.0 UG GPA and did the masters and got a 3.8, then yes, I think it would help. But in your case you have a 3.5 which is within the range of most schools. I'd do it if it was cheap and you truly wanted to learn more about stats, but I don't think you need it for an MBA.
