The crab legs pic was clearly intentional, and I thought it was hilarious on his part.

Re: OP's question, the only scenario where I see Mariota having a better pro career than Winston is if Chip Kelly somehow makes a play for him. It will be hard for Mariota to go to a shitty team and learn a new offense all at once.

Also, the comparisons of Winston to JaMarcus Russell are dumb. Russell was an average (at best) college QB with a once in a generation cannon and horrendous work ethic. Winston, despite making some poor decisions (which all college kids do, top-notch athletes just have their mistakes magnified), has a strong football IQ, incredible instincts, great accuracy, and knows how to win games. He's not an Andrew Luck type of prospect, but he is going to a team with a decent o-line and a great receiver in Mike Evans. It also helps that he is playing in the worst division in the NFL. Don't be surprised if he has a pretty damn good rookie season.

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

99.9% of college kids have never been accused of rape...we can argue all day long whether or not he did it but saying all college kids make poor decisions doesn't tell the whole story. As for me, I don't like Winston at all...I hate his attitude and his cockiness. With that said, he's a much better pocket passer than Mariota. Mariota reminds me of Colin Kapernick (who knows how to spell that guys name)...fast and athletic but not as accurate. Think about top pro QB's...Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck - Winston's style is much closer to these guys than Mariota. The only QB out of those 3 that is even remotely athletic is Luck. All you have to do is be able to throw the ball accurately, and Jameis can do that. I do believe in the system QB stereotype for Mariota. However, I also think Russell Wilson is a system QB an he has a ring and came close to a second so they can still be successful.........in the system.

I don't like Winston (no one really does), but I don't see the allure of Mariota. Obviously, I'm not professional scout, but I don't see how his skills translate to the pro game.

If I was Mariota I would've been praying last night that the Eagles would've found a way to trade and get me.

I would not want to be on the same team as Tebow.

Why not? All you have to do is put up with him until training camp and pre-season games are over. He'll be gone after that.

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Let me guess - you went to an sec school and only believe in college qb's with pro style offense experience?

There's no way marcus would be able to figure out how to stand behind center and jog backwards 5 steps.

No and No, but nice try.

There's a big gap in between pro style and Oregon's Nintendo offense. I didn't watch all Oregon games, but saw a decent amount. I was always left thinking that Mariota was a great athlete and leader, but I'm not sold on him as a quarterback. He hit the guy that the play was drawn up for without any issue, but I never really saw him make reads and hit a second or third option on time (again, my perception and I'm not a scout). The times where he did hit a secondary read it seemed like it was a guy running wide open down the sideline and Mariota was a little slow getting the ball out there.

Mariota will be a good QB. Tennessee isn't necessarily the best spot for him, but the whole "system quarterback" insult is nonsense. Every QB works within a system...

Winston is a dumpster fire. Going to be the return of JaMarcus.

The Jamarcus comparison is the laziest one I've ever seen and I'm 90% sure it's only made because Jameis is black. Jameis doesn't have the arm strength Jamarcus did, Jamarcus had no where near the accuracy or football intelligence Winston has. Call him a potential bust if you want but don't be so lazy as to resort to the "last big black QB that failed" comparison.

Crazy how people write off Mariota so quickly. The trite and misinformed argument that has been disseminating must stop. Yes he is not that good of a pocket passer, but he surely has time to improve his pocket passing. The importance of tangibles are often understated; He has all the qualities that can produce improvement. He is humble , orderly , determined and willing to learn. Also, it's not even as if the guy is generally poor at throwing the football. He is actually not a bad passer. True is the fact that the best QBs in the NFL are more cerebral and technical , but don't forget about Wilson who should have had 2 superbowls at this point. Yes it is also true that the likes of the more athletic QBs (RGII&Kaep) have lit it up for one season then stunk it up for the other seasons, but Mariota is more multi-dimensional than the likes of RGIII and Kaep; RGIII has no pocket presence and does not throw the ball very well and Kaep is not a good passer either.

Winston is his worst enemy. He is arrogant and unethical. He is the definition of a human paradox. He is extremely smart playing the game , but not that much when he is not. There are two sides to being a professional athlete. I like that he is unflappable and clutch though . However ,his off-the-field antics could be his detriment.Don't be fooled by his interception statistics either, they should actually be higher. Statistics don't tell the whole story. There were many games last season where he made quite a number of very risky passes that should have been picked off. He was very lucky at times.

I honestly don't see any of them going to the NFL ready-made. There's a learning curve for everyone. I see both players with tremendous upside , but I choose Mariota because I am not convinced that Winston has put the antics behind him and his intangibles are just simply not favorable.

I still don't understand why Winston is called "clutch" or especially accurate in this thread. His completion percentage was less than Mariota's even with a lower yards per attempt. Half as many touchdowns. 8-9x the number of interceptions. Winston REGULARLY just didn't look for underneath defenders during the season, leading to that INT stat.

Because he was able to dig his team out of several difficult situations when it mattered and he played some excellent 4th quarters when he was garbage for the other quarters of the games and the games were really tight.

Mariota, but I'm obviously biased. The whole system QB argument is lazy garbage regurgitated by people who haven't watched the tape and don't realize that Mariota is ten times better than the other guys who have come out of Oregon's system (Masoli, Dixon, Thomas, etc). He's not someone like Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning that can put a bad team on his back and win games from day 1, but if the Titans put a decently competitive team around him he'll be an great QB. In terms of intangibles he's right up there with Russell Wilson.

I think Winston will be an average NFL starter, but he seems to have the situational awareness of a sea cucumber. Not only is he an idiot (and please don't bring up his high school GPA as if it actually means something), he flaunts his stupidity. I predict he'll get suspended at least once in the first few years of his career and generally be a headache for the Bucs.

Also, I have no idea how Russell Wilson is a system QB. The terms gets applied to so many players that it lost any sort of meaning years ago (if it ever meant anything in the first place). "System QB" basically means "I don't like this guy but I can't explain why, so I'll just label him with a generic term to dismiss his success or justify why I think he'll fail."
