Working during Master's to enhance marketability
After my bachelor's, I worked as a broker (sales) for a few years, followed by three years of dirty, front-line work drilling the Marcellus shale. I'm doing a Master's in Engineering Management from a state school like CSU Northridge. My GPA is about 3.3, and all my classes are recorded so I can view them later if I'm at work.
My question to you is this: if I have the opportunity, should I seek work for next semester at a local firm like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Siemens, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, in a junior position like Project Manager or Engineering Manager — with the goal of getting good recommendations and references (I have none, my recent past is with rednecks) — is that a significant boost to my marketability for management consulting?
Thanks for reading; I value your experienced input.
