Writing Sample interview? -equity research positions at boutique healthcare IB
Hi all,
I just did phone interviews with a few people in the equity research team at Leerink Partners. They said to conduct the next round by sending candidates materials to complete a writing sample in a few hours. Any idea what it might be?
I have done research report for biotech equity research position where they just give you a ticker and expect a report in 10 days. But what do they want to see in a wring report finished in 2 hours? Any thoughts?
A little bit about my background: PhD with some equity research internship and part-time consulting for a biotech company for over a year.
Thanks!
Hey, I have a very similar situation coming up with Jefferies and I am curious about what they expect in the writing sample. If you got any insights after your interview, please let me know!
Hey, glad I can help.
It's an analytical writing sample where they give you a press release(5-6 pages) and one-page P&L statement(with partial assumptions). The company expects you to complete notes in 2 hours and send it back to them.
The case itself involves M&A in the general healthcare sector which I don't think there is much science behind to talk about.
Good luck with Jefferies.
Thanks for the quick response! Did you have to just provide "notes" or an actual written piece?
(I am assuming you provided notes on the key points in the P&L and press release, along with your interpretations?)
Thanks for the wishes btw, I am really excited about it :)
Hearing back after a writing test (Equity Research)? (Originally Posted: 07/30/2014)
I was asked to submit a writing sample at the beginning of the week. How long does this typically take to hear back after submitting the sample? Also, is this usually the last stop pre-offer? Going on 3-days over here and am getting anxious!
Do keep in mind that's it's earnings season. Three days is nothing; I'd follow up after a few more days, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.
ER Interview with Written Test (Originally Posted: 08/08/2011)
I have an interview next week for an entry-level equity research position that includes a written test . The interviewer told me the written test would involve creating a model to measure the effects of a press release. I'm actually an engineer moving into finance so I don't really know what that entails. Does anyone have a sample model or similar test I can take a look at to practice? Thanks so much in advance.
