WSO Weekly Wrap-Up (4/2-4/8)

In case you missed them, here're some of last week's most popular topics:

From almost getting expelled in HS to IB FT
Post By @yhslaw"

I went to a prestigious private high school where lots of students are placed into Ivy League and other target schools across the nation. However, I was addicted to video games and naive to think that I could pull a 3.0 and get into a good college based on the reputation of my high school. Do not give up; if this high school slacker can do it, anyone can do it.

Best Shows to Binge Watch After Scoring That Dream Internship
Post By @Alibabes56"

Do you guys have any finance shows to recommend?

Found job - delete recruiters & add rejectors?
Post By @moneytrail"

Is there any loss to deleting all the low-level recruiters (i.e. researchers, consultants, senior consultants, and a sprinkle of directors and managers) during my job search process (except for around 1 to 5 helpful or useful recruiters)? Also, what are the thoughts about staying in touch with people from companies which in the end, rejected me as a candidate (though I received great feedback from them)?

Vacation as an Analyst
Post By @LukeSkywalker"

I am about to begin working at a BB in their investment banking division as an analyst in a few months. Do you guys mind sharing when is it generally alright to take your first vacation as an analyst? Is Christmas and/or New Years generally treated as a holiday or do you have to work? How far ahead do you give your team a heads up when you are planning a vacation?

Smoking Weed and Optimizing Productivity
Post By @vuw957"

Are there any high functioning weed addicts on the street or in other demanding professions? I would like to hear your inputs on weed, how often you use it and how you manage your responsibilities around it.

AMA: Dropout -> coding bootcamp -> 100K+
Post By @0to100"

I hope to convince other ambitious young folks that you do not have to be working in the front office or busting your ass to make good cash out of school. You also do not need to be in the tech group at a Big 4 firm, or a HYP CS graduate to succeed in the tech industry. If you want to work hard, silicon valley needs you and will pay you well for it.

Tuck vs Wharton-Lauder
Post By @Internationalchampion"

I have been admitted to Tuck (with $50k/yr in financial aid) and the Wharton-Lauder program (with no aid). I am admittedly drawn towards Wharton-Lauder for prestige reasons, but the thought of going into $220K of debt if I attend Wharton-Lauder terrifies me.

Vice President Fund Carry/Equity
Post By @Billy Ray Valentine"

I have been negotiating an offer with a PE firm to come on as a VP. I have worked for this same firm before I left for a few years, and now they have roped me back in. They are currently in the process of raising their second fund (sub $500mm target) and since the firm's size is still small, my compensation is likely to be at the lower end of the PE VP spectrum. Do VPs typically receive carried interest in a PE firm and if so, how much?

Deloitte S&O Partner Track vs. BCG Expert Track
Post By @SFO4life"

The optionality that BCG gives me as well as the opportunity to make a lot of money on a non-partner track is enticing. On the other hand, having the opportunity to be a Partner at Deloitte is also enticing and having to restart and build a brand at BCG will be a lot of work. I welcome any comments that you may have.
