Wustl MSF vs Villanova MSF

I was recently accepted into Wustl's MSF program and will be applying to nova within the next few days. Coming from a non-target, I feel wustl would allow me to rebrand myself, but I'm not sure if the program is really better than villanova's. I'm from New Jersey so ideally I would like to work in nyc or philly, but getting the best possible job is my top priority right now. I have a 3.4 gpa in chemical engineering and 6 months WE at bloomberg. I'm interested in banking, equity research, asset managment, and possibly F500. I'm also looking to intern this spring, summer, and during the msf program. Which program is better for placement into FO roles?

Based on WUSTL's placement stats, there's no reason you couldn't work in the NYC metro area with a WUSTL degree.

"When I was young I thought that money was the most important thing in life; now that I am old I know that it is." - Oscar Wilde "Seriously, psychology is for those with two x chromosomes." - RagnarDanneskjold

I think you would be competitive. Engineering grads get into the program, but most people do have a finance background. Round 3 is kind of a bitch also. Nikki runs a great program up there so either choice you make you will be happy.

I'll be interested to see how placements shake out now that the program has been split into quant and corp finance. WUSTL was always the more quanty of the traditional MSF pack.

Out of curiosity, where are you all getting this placement information?

Also, I go to WashU and am taking a couple classes with some of the MSF students. If you have specific questions about the program, I may be able to provide answers.

I've been getting all the placement info from the msf websites, msfhq, and wso. I do have a few questions about the program if you don't mind. -How is the OCR at washU with respect to banking, consulting, and asset management? -Do you have any firsthand knowledge of how the placements are shaping up for the current msf class? -Do you think it will be difficult to get placed in nyc from the program?

Haha I see you're all about placement, which I am unsure about because undergraduates have a different recruiting system than the graduate students. Are you thinking about the quant track or the corporate finance track?

I can tell you that most of the students in the program are international. Generally speaking, they head back to their home countries and get baller jobs (I know one guy in Singapore trading, another who will be headed to Shanghai for PE).

OCR for undergrads is okay, but we're kind of a semi-target. We are targeted by Edward Jones, Pipar Jaffray, and Sagent. Semi-target from Goldman, MS, and BOA (typically Chicago jobs with the exception of Goldman). For consulting, we are targeted by Bain, BCG, Deloitte, Accenture, and Econ Consulting firms (NERA, Cornerstone, Analysis Group). Asset Management is more limited - we are targeted by NISA. This is all undergrad though, so I can't speak for OCR at the graduate level.

WUSL can actually give you a chane to break into banking or s&t...not the case for nova.

WUSTL is a great school, but what is with the hate and misinformation? You should maybe get your facts straight before you start giving advice. You're only discrediting yourself pal.

Im speaking from experience of not meeting a single nova grad on the trading floor. And I'm not hating, if you manage to break out from nova then you're a fucking superstar. On average though, WUSL is going to be a better bet.

Go to WUSTL, Nova is a dead end and really not worth the money, I second what bernankey said.

Where on earth is this vitriol coming from? Placements past and present do not indicate that Villanova is a dead end by any means.

Why on earth is the one Villanova MSF alumni the least biased person in this post lol

A Villanova alum, who has a website touting their MSF, likes the school? Shocker! Of course this makes you the least biased!

1st - Blow me

2nd - I do not tout shit. I love the WUSTL program and know the director and alumni

Your statement is frivolous at best. No where have I been shilling Nova over WUSTL. Both are great programs and can help you get a great job. How about you attempt to provide some value added opinions instead of factually incorrect, completely biased statements.

Rarely do I agree with ANT, and I mean almost never, but FutureBanker you sound like a fucking idiot.
