So we have our private group now

Lets all try to figure out what we want to get out of this.

Would like to build a closer group of friends where none of us have to worry about what is being said and who else is reading.

Would love the idea of meeting up whether thats in NYC, Chicago, Houston, Paris, London. We all have very different backgrounds but share many of the same interests. In general we are all alike in that we have reach out to help others. As time passes there will be more of us.

Gentlemen,

Let's put it to a vote. Since we are 11 deep, I think 7 IN/OUT votes should be the threshold number. Here are the candidates for membership, along with my vote:

Anthony- IN

Bondarb-IN

Compbanker-IN

happypantsmcgee-IN

monty09-IN

Patrick-IN

shorttheworld-IN

Illini's recent suggestions

Frieds-IN (great call Illini, I was hesitant to add him myself as he's a bit of a a recluse, but the kid knows his shit and is very thoughtful and well-mannered)

Quant-was not aware of this guy, but if I can have my racist, homophobic, eugenicist, alcoholic brethren aboard, no reason Programmer shouldn't have a playmate that suits his sphere of interest...IN

Agreed with all of the nominations in both Midas and trade4size's posts: Anthony Bondarb Compbanker happypantsmcgee monty09 Patrick shorttheworld Frieds Not aware of "Quant" - is that his full username? EDIT - Agree with Eddie, Marcus Halberstram needs an invite as well.

I'm fine with whatever, most people already know where I work and what I do, its not like it would be difficult to find me it's such a small industry. On the vol side, CreditDerivatives (equity) and FXTrader (guess) might be good.

I'm cool with whatever too, though it might be good to keep this from turning into just the certified users group. Perhaps 2-3 years of industry experience and a certain level of helpfulness to new users should be the basic threshhold?
Completely agree - WSO SS should be invite only, with a high bar for membership. You need to demonstrate a continued commitment to helping new monkeys break in, offering good advice, and a willingness to participate in the SS regularly. I don't want this just to be a profile badge - it should be a real life network of guys sharing ideas, job openings, investment opportunities, and the occasional beer. Much better to have a smaller group than allow it to get diluted.

100% agree. While I still support the above three candidates, I think that there should be a stop to new members after them..at least until this group develops more, I think we need some time to feel out what this group is/can become.

I agree with all the above.

This group should really try and have a meet up or something. I think the huge value add is the fact that if we all met up it wouldn't become an ass kissing fest in an attempt to get a job. Not that trying to get a job is a bad thing, but I think friendships and networking blossom the most when their is a level of equality or reciprocity.

If anything, I think the common thread among us all is that we obviously help out others with minimal gain to ourselves.

Your post echoed some of my thoughts. I think a lot of us get a great deal of cold PMs as it is. I'm up for anything in NYC, but also willing to consider any reasonable city on the Northeast Corridor.

Doh. Guess my pm didn't read as well as I thought it did when I sent it. Meant to say that Frieds was a Quant who knows what he's doing. There's no user named Quant as far as I'm aware of.

Haha, Midas. At first I thought you were talking about the porno, but then I googled and there is a Stocks and Blonds in Chicago.

Alright Gents, I was talking to Anthony about this tonight and this has got to be, without question, the most fucked up, annoying, padantic email I have ever gotten from someone. Little background. I met a VP at Goldman awhile back through my girlfriends dad and we had dinner, chatted, etc. I sent him an email after meeting him about how I could transition from AM to S&T possibly pre-MBA/MSF, etc. The following is his response which I cut down to the highlights:

"I am more than willing to address your questions. I only apologize that I hadn't taken the time to answer them sooner. Health problems have prevented me from being as thorough and dutiful as I should be. I only hope that you can forgive me the grievous oversight-- I'll even prostrate myself in order that you should know the magnitude of my remorse.

I too have an interest in assets. Management of assets, on the other hand, are a bit out of my personal sphere of expertise. I revel in disordered assets; I have so many at my disposal that I can scarcely keep track of whose they are. Though I'm more equipped at T&A assets than S&T, I won't begrudge you for your own personal indulgences. It is a long shot, but I'm firmly convinced that if you aim high, you can cover those assets, be they firm or large.

As assets are unpredictable and ultimately misleading until they can be more thoroughly examined beyond cursory exterior glances, I'm unsure of how to advise you. Go with your gut-- you seem like an enterprising young man, and I have no doubt you have copious experience to back your intuition; if you expect that they're firm, I'm quite confident that you will find them as such.

Share your assets! That will surely get you noticed! That is if your assets are as compelling as I assume that they are.

(I made a stupid joke about working at Waffle House which is what he was referencing here). Of course, I wouldn't put the Waffle House position completely out of the question. Sure, to me it sounds quite torturous, but Vatsyayana knows best. It may well be a good match for you.

Also, I have a payment here which I need to pass on to you. A distant relative of mine has passed away and his last will and testament insisted that the money be disseminated to worthy parties. As you have proven yourself quite adept with assets, I have no doubt that you are more than qualified to receive payment. To receive the money I only need your personal bank number and social security number so that I can validate your identity."

So now, at 2 am, I'm sitting here trying to decide if I can come up with a way to ruin this fucks career short of hoping in my car, driving to NYC and just killing him. Its cool if you don't respond but I had to show this to someone.

happy, what was your initial discussion with him like and your primary goal is to get help from him to transition to S&T? need a bit more background...weird.

My initial discussion with him was pretty good actually. Talked about everything from sports to markets to whatever. We had dinner, beers, etc. I mentioned that I wanted to get into trading at somepoint but really only in passing. The email I sent him originally, the one that garnered this response, wasn't pushy or anything either. Just the basic how are things, enjoyed speaking with you, still looking for S&T roles etc. As far as my primary goal, I didn't really expect anything from him in the way of help per se, just some general guidance, maybe a name of someone or something.

If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses - Henry Ford

Speechless. WTF? This from a Goldman VP?

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

yeah, just trying to figure out what your previous discussions were like to get such a weird response. Maybe he just has a weird sense of humor and thought you would find it funny?

Maybe your e-mails / questions are too general or he is not sure what you want from him...so he wrote a weird e-mail, 1/2 to get you off his back and 1/2 to humor himself in between the raping his MD is probably giving him?

no idea....i would first figure out what exactly you want from this guy, and then just ask for it. Did you ask if he knew anyone he could introduce you to in S&T?

good luck w this

In the interest of fairness, I didn't really consider that this could have been an attempt at humor. I just assumed he was wasted/tired/strung out. The guy definitely had an air of superiority about him but I feel like we hit it off pretty well so I was basically shocked by his response. I'll cut and paste my email to him here if for no other reason than I can't sleep because I'm trying to think of some sort of decent response to this.

Here's my email:

"Mr. CuntWaffle (not his real name even though I think it should be),

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you in DC when you came down for the conference and appreciate you taking the time to talk to me. I have used your joke about Eli Manning many times to rave reviews so thank you for that as well.

Though I enjoy Asset Management, I am still interested in pursuing a trading role at somepoint in the near future and was hoping, assuming you have the time, you could give me some insights into how I could best position myself to make the transition. As you advised, I have continued to familiarize myself with a variety of trading software and systems in addition to reading up on interview guides to S&T so that I'll be prepared in the event that an opportunity prevents itself. Are there any other steps that I could take in order to ensure I'll be best postioned to take advantage of any leads that I am able to come up with? To this end, are there any particular contacts or individuals that you recommend I reach out to?

Thank you again for taking time out of your very busy schedule to answer my questions and I hope that the next time I'm in New York, we'll be able to catch up and try some of the micro brews you told me about.

Respectfully,

Happy"

Edit: I took out the Waffle House joke because it was stupid

See IDK,

The email is well written, but I'm not sure.....maybe I just assume that after emailing back and forth and a face to face meeting, that the fluffy emails should stop and there should be no BS. Straight up email/get him on the phone and speak to him directly....but then again, I have not idea what is the proper protocol with an email like that.

Did the guy seem to know a lot of about different finance things and recruitment in general? I have met MDs, that while very intelligent and capable in their field, had no idea about recruitment practices or anything finance related outside of their particular area of expertise.

Fair point again, maybe I'm over thinking it but this was the first email I'd ever sent him so I didn't want to be too direct. The guy certainly enjoyed a nice ego stroking but I could be getting bent out of shape over nothing.

Yea sorry, S&T. I don't want totally sell the guy up the river in case I get a 'Oh fuck, I was wasted my bad." kinda email tomorrow but yes

If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses - Henry Ford

Then he must know what he is talking about and I think he is either fucking with you or wasted----I'm leaning towards the former, but hoping for the latter.

Is there a particular product you are looking to trade or do you want a position in this guys group?

No matter what is going on, sleep on it and decide if you want to call/email and then do it...what's the worst that can happen....he says no.

@Patrick

What do you think about a user guide aimed at dealing with this sort of insanity? Workplace personality issues, crazy ass chain letter MD who keeps repeating T&A+your assets while droning in poetic prose? and anything else in that realm? I was actually thinking about making a series of posts on how to deal with shitbag co-workers and unruly situations...why not monetize it? "This week's NSFW brought to you by the WSO Conflict Control Guide, if Eddie can get rich and Midas can kick a bitch, why can't you make nice with other monkeys?"

This might be deserving of excommunication...

The email that I posted up here earlier was, apparently, not from a VP at Goldman. When he told me to email him at his gmail account and that it was just 'my first name dot my last name' he neglected to tell me that he spelled his first name in a different way than most people. So the person I ended up sending the email to, while having the same name, is a huge prick and is not, in any way shape form or fashion, affiliated with banking or Goldman in anyway. I called my gf's dad and told him about the email who then, in turn, called the guy and he was embarrassed enough to call me about it and we got it sorted out. I apologize for wasting all of your time.

Happy,

This guy reminds me of a coked up jackass MD I know that is currently at MS. He was great until he fell back of the wagon. Then, it was back to lines of coke in the bathroom, with his assistants, in between meals, with the blinds closed down. My bosses, when he left the firm, brought in a full team to clean his office and they had to wear face masks it was suspected that there was so much cocaine filtered into the fabric. When he went off the bandwagon, he definitely sounded like this guy. Oh, and Cuntwaffle... awesome name. Looks like I now have a name to refer to douches as.

Hey guys,

Can't think of a better subject to discuss with the inner circle of WSO than this.

We are officially "on the map". I've been getting tips from Bloomberg for awhile now, but I was just contacted by the powers that be over at Playboy, and they tipped me off to this upcoming article that isn't available anywhere yet. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't share this with anyone, but I think this is right in WSO's wheelhouse:

The author has offered to do an exclusive interview for WSO, and I'm inclined to take him up on it. What do you guys think? I think the site would enjoy learning about the dark side of the sovereign debt market.

I'm very supportive of the interview. I think WSO could certainly benefit from the publicity.

I admit -- I didn't read the article. I did what I do whenever I read through a new CIM: I flip through and stare at all the pictures first.

Eddie,

Go for it. That would be a huge score for WSO, and to have an interview with the guy that wrote this published here, you can't beat that. I think it will definitely shock some of the monkeys, but it's worth it to show the ethicality or lack there of behind the street.

The article is really just nutso. I'm not shocked that this is happeneing, but this is what happens when you abuse the legal system without much avail because it's fair game. All it takes is a little bit of money to get what you want, whether your public or private. That's just the honest truth.

Guys,

I just added Mezz as a member. He's not only a Certified User, he's a WSO moderator who called my attention to something we need to be aware of. All the WSO moderators can see this group and read this thread. It's nothing to worry about, because I think all the mods are pretty good guys (I think most of us are mods, actually), but just be aware.

As for Mezz, he's always had good content and he'll be a welcome addition to the group.

Agreed - Mezz is a great member. Patrick - can you cross reference the list of mods with the group membership? I definitely don't think allowing all mods to see this group is within the spirit of a small, tight, private society.

- Capt K - "Prestige is like a powerful magnet that warps even your beliefs about what you enjoy. If you want to make ambitious people waste their time on errands, bait the hook with prestige." - Paul Graham

Patrick,

Is there anyway to make this thread Mod proof---give it super administrative powers or something--similar to what Anthony has?

In terms of the article,

Maybe I am just too much of a Capitalist, but overall I don't think what those vulture funds were doing was necessarily bad. I have a problem with them getting paid 100 cents on the dollar, but in terms of collecting debt and using private spies to dig up dirt--I really don't see anything wrong with it. Maybe they should set up some kind of arbitration so that while a firm can't get 100 cents on the dollar, it can still make 3x or 4x its investment.

I think this is absolutely critical, we need to have an expectation of total privacy inside the SS user group...

All right folks. It looks like almost everyone has signed up on the outside forum to exchange private info and/or meetups. It also makes a good backup for when the stuff goes down on the main site.

Here's who we're still missing:

Midas Anthony Patrick (WSO) ShortTheWorld Eddie

You guys don't have to join if you don't want to, but seeing as some folks requested a private forum just wanted to throw it out there. It's just designed to just complement everything else on the site. So if you're interested in placing a couple of prank phone calls to a certain quant developer about relatives who can't get the outhouse to flush, this is your opportunity.

I definitely agree with Mezz joining. He's awesome and worth adding to the collective.

While I outright agree that secrecy is a must, I don't necessarily think that giving out a root-like access would be the best course of action, especially for me and Happy who don't already have admin access. Ultimately, I really think that how we proceed is a function of what can and can't be done with the back end of the system. As to the privacy issue, I don't know what back end your using Patrick, but can't you set a user flag for certain content?

Agreed - Mezz is a great member. Patrick - can you cross reference the list of mods with the group membership? I definitely don't think allowing all mods to see this group is within the spirit of a small, tight, private society.

One thing to keep in mind, guys, is that this is a custom-built forum, and we might not have that option.

Patrick- did the developer build the completely-private-groups in? If not, I have a few ideas for alternatives that wouldn't cost you a dime, but would require someone to volunteer as an administrator on a separate forum system (PHPBB).

Why not just exchange emails or something. I think most people have AIM or Gchat. Probably the best way for us to chat in real time.

Either way it will help with the content on the site. We could maybe time or deploy topics in a somewhat orderly fashion. I am sure some of you might be able to talk some sense into me before I go off on a political rant or something.

Doubtful at best. I agree with the secrecy comments above but only if it doesn't require too much work on Patrick's part as far as altering whatever system he currently has in place. Also think Mezz was a quality addition.

Patrick - if you're not able to make this happen on WSO.com as it's built today, I can also help get us setup someplace secure, non-public, and encrypted. If need be, I'll volunteer time to set it up and web hosting (which I can secure for free due to a business relationship).

I think Smartest Guys in the Room would be fitting, but what types of books are you thinking about? Entertaining? serious texts? energy related?

Smartest Guys in the Room

Energy Trading & Investing--which I think is fitting considering how the Energy Rodeo will have speakers from all different energy groups and would be a decent read for any college students that choose to attend.

There is also a book about the founding of Glencore, but I forgot what it is called

Last Man Standing: The Ascent of Jamie Dimon and JPMorgan Chase The Invisible Hands Reminiscences of a Stock Operator When Genius Failed

Maybe a book about options?

What do you think of the list?

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

When genius failed is not a bad start on derivatives for those who know absolutely zero without going the educational route imo. Also really busy this week thanks to vol and dollar bid to hell.

hey guys, sorry about the delay. Was at an insane River-Boca Superclasico game all day here in Argentina (bitter soccer rivals), -- if you are friends with me on Facebook, check out the video I just posted. May try to get it up on Youtube and embed it on WSO later.

Anyway, I just made some tweaks to the permissions so that Mods can't edit or delete any group content like before. I think this should prevent them from seeing the posts / threads in private groups like this one.

Do we know another mod we can test this with that is not a member of the group (that won't be offended not being a member)?

Patrick---kick me out of the group and then I will test it out. For some reason only another admin can let me leave the group---I can't do it myself.

PM me when you kick me out.

Hey,

Capt K. kicked me out of the group, but I can still see posts.

I'm not the most computer savy and I will try again in a few hours, but is there any chance that the servers/something need to to recycle before they acknowledge Patrick's changes and/or that I am not in the group?

It's possible but unlikely. Methinks Patrick's site runs off of a single SQL server that would keep all of this stuff synchronized.

If I can throw in my 2 cents. Not sure if you're suggesting that we take the group off of WSO, but if you are, I'd have to say that I really like the fact the group is WSO embedded. We can easily jump from regular WSO posts to this, and vice versa, as well as more easily keep track of what everyone is doing.

On a side note, how did the Hang Gliding go? I've got my eyes set on some courses for this upcoming summer!

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the welcome. As I was telling Ed, I almost feel unworthy being among the WSO greats. Outside of these forums, I've spoken extensively with Patrick and monty (big moral support when I was looking for a job back in 08/09 -- thx guys!), and very briefly with CaptK, so looking forward to getting to know the rest of you.

P.S. I may be the only dude from Canada here, so take it easy on me haha.

Also, anyone stateside, beside me, into College Football?

haha yup been in Canada for the last 19 of my 23 years on this planet...Canada loves them immigrants :D

As for my obsession with hockey...I can no longer watch the sport fanatically after having the MTL Canadiens break my heart on numerous occasions.

Not much of a college football watcher unfortunately, but the NFL is probably the greatest thing about America haha, love it ;)

Always down for some college football chat...my favorite topic at the moment is how Terrell Pryor never looks like he's doing anything but jogging and still outruns everyone on the field and anything related to spreads, over unders, etc...I MIGHT have a bit of a sports gambling issue...

I've liked 'Cuse. It's going to be interesting to see what happens to them when the Big East falls apart. I wouldn't be surprised if they move into the Big 10 along with Rutgers, Missouri and Notre Dame (Yes, Notre Dame will fall from its independence into the Big Ten, making it the most tradition filled division in all of college football. The only teams that should be independant are the Service Academies because they have unrestricted travel rules and it doesn't matter who they play) making it the first of a few big conferences. I'm just waiting for tickets to the 'Cuse/Penn State game at the Medowlands to go on sale.

Pryor's a tool that should be playing at Penn State instead of Ohio State, but he is a hell of an athlete. Happy, this is why I don't bet on College Football, I'd be broke and out on my ass.

Midas, at least you didn't show the Sean Avery clip. Hell of a goal by Matteau, but we had our revenge a year later... complete with the hit heard round the world on Eric Lindros and beating Detroit for the cup.

Why am I not surprised you chose Northwestern. I feel bad though... first you guys hand over #400 to Joe Paterno by way of 35 unanswered points and then the heart and soul of Northwestern's offense, Dan Persa, gets sidelined with an Achillese Tendon rip. Persa's a hell of a player and it's going to be fun watching him when he comes back next year.

Sorry guys...your still transmitting on an unsecured line.

At the risk of offending people, couldn't you just remove some of the people as Mods? Its a fairly drastic move but it would make it easier and, with the new spam filter, it seems like the need for mods has significantly decreased. Plus Anthony loves his ban hammer.

The mods contribute a lot to this site. So unless everyone is willing to devote the time and energy to go through the drudgery of helping us continue winning the arms race on human anti-spam verification and removing ridiculously obnoxious/illegal posts, I'm ok with letting sleeping dogs lie.

I like having this be a part of the site, but if we're serious about keeping everything private, we need to consider the PHPBB option. No license fees, runs on (free) MySQL. If things don't work out, I can set it up on my site if folks want me to, or I can help Patrick set it up on his. Heck, if he's willing to let me take a look at his source code and I have a lot of time sitting around (unlikely), I can even work on making mod-hidden groups.

One other compromise might be to set up a page that lets us keep the sidebar and top bars but has the main frame point to a PHPBB forum.

Didn't mean to imply you were. I'm not a mod either, but I've been a forum host in the past (college club) and never figured out how the mods and admins avoided going crazy dealing with all of the spammers and administrativia.

I think we've got several options that we need to consider:

1.) Remove mods. 2.) Code change on Patrick's site to keep discussions private from non-member mods. 3.) Separate forum ----A.) Hosted by Patrick. ----B.) Hosted by another member (I can set one up in two hours on marktenpas.com- I think someone else volunteered, too.) --------i.) With a frame on WSO. --------ii.) without a frame on WSO.

Stuff to think about.

Mezz,

So you like the Habs? Mad respect. When I was younger, besides watching the Devils religiously, every time I could catch a Blues game (I'm a huge fan of Al MacInnis) or Hartford, The Whale!, I would watch intently.

As long as your not a Leafs fan... or a Nordiques fan (unless of course you hate the Red Wings, then it's okay)... I just can't sympathize for those two teams. Loyal bunch of fans for both, but man... the Leafs have just outright sucked for the last few years.

Frieds, you're a Devils fan as well? Half my family is from Orange (though my immediate family moved away when I was 3), so I've been rooting the Devils on from afar for my whole life. I used to see them a little more often when I lived in Charlotte and they played the Hurricanes, but now it's once every 2 years when they have an away game at the Avs here in Denver. This season's a bit of a disaster...

No doubt that the leafs suck. I grew up in MTL but not live in Toronto, and I feel disgusted everytime I walk past someone wearing a leafs jersey, lol

Cappy,

Seeing as I'm WSO's self-proclaimed Jersey guy, of course I gotta root for the Devils.

Sorry to hear you're stuck watching the Nordiques. They were good when Patty Roy was playing for them, when Sakic ran the team's offense, Adam Foote was underrated on defense and they stole Ray Borque from Beantown to win his first cup.

I didn't know you were in Denver. I pass through Denver 4-5 times a year when I go see family in Steamboat. Small world.

Mike McKee lives here in Paris (Nordiques and Avalanche 92-95) and our kids go to the same school and play soccer together. The guy's still a beast. He's my age and he's still in unbelievable shape.

Hard to get excited about a goalie Ed? Did you watch the US hockey team in the olympics? Ryan Miller made himself a household name after that game...well he was for a couple days anyway

Happy,

I'll take Luongo any day of the week over Miller based around his Olympic performance.

Eddie,

I mean, most goalies are nothing like the Jon Toews', Evgeni Malkins and Sidney Crosbys of the NHL, but when you get a battle for a shut out, it just changes everything. Some of the best games I've ever seen where the games where the goalies are god. I can't help but think of so many great OT playoff games where the Goalie was the reason why they lasted so long. There's a great game from '94, Devils/Sabers in which Brodeur and Hasek went into the 4th OT, after a full 6 periods had been played before a goal was scored by either teams. That's 2 full games, right there before a goal was scored. Or how about Philly/Pittsburgh back in 2000 that went nearly 6 OTs (the game ended after 92 minutes and change in overtime play) on top of the three periods of regulation. That's almost 3 full games, two of which were sudden death rules. If those kind of game can't get you behind a goalie, I don't know what would.

Midas Mulligan Magoo:
1) Fuck hockey. Soccer on ice.

2) Goalie's rule. Ranger fan here and I'll take Brodeur>Overchkin+Crosby+Toews come the playoffs.

Your people are such a tactful bunch...for my money, Patrick Roy's the best in my memory but Brodeur played through some nasty, nasty injuries and was still effective

So were the Broad Street Bullies, Midas but their legend isn't as grand as that of Gordie Howe. Now there was a scrapper I would have wanted to avoid at all costs and paid to see from the stands.

Here's a little bit of triva for you, known for his penchant for both fighting and being a great offensive minded player, he is the only player who has a hat trick named after him. Unlike some of the other Hat Tricks, which are referred to as unofficial hat tricks, the Gordie How Hat Trick lives up to the name of the man that it was named after, despite havinvg only accrued two himself during his lengthy 6 decade career playing Professional Hockey. The Gordie Howe Hat Trick requires you to score a goal, pick up an assist and get into a fight all in the same game, yet despite it's lengthy history, it has only been recorded since 1996 and less than 10 teams keep track of it?

How's that for being a scrapper?

Revs, we can be civil about hockey, but 4 years in the middle of Pennsylvania has made me hate the Steelers, the Eagles and the Phillies out of sheer necessity, plus most Eagles fans are jackasses (none here withstanding.... yet!)

Ahh gotcha, I go up to Pitt a fair amount to have intercourse with my girlfriend so I wasn't sure if I could catch you on the way there or something. Yea man, Tie Domi was definitely good at what he did and not someone I would fuck with. I met Krys Barch a while back and when I shook his hand, his knuckles were like mush from the pounding they took. NHL enforcers are a group that I would never even consider fucking with.

Was a huge Bruins fan back in the day so I naturally hate the Canadians as well.

But basically, I am your typical Masshole - huge fan of Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots and Bruins. I love how everyone is underestimating the Pats this year...still not ranked #1 in ESPNs Power ranking. what a joke.

Would you rather face The fucking Falcons or Brady+Belicheck in a Super Bowl? enough said.

Brady sucks.

I kid I kid. But seriously. He sucks. ;)

I thought it was really cool that Tie Domi attended Bob Probert's funeral over the summer after the beatings Probie gave him.

Patrick, I used to love to watch Bruins home games because their rink was so small. I think it was the smallest regulation rink in the NHL, actually, which meant guys were on top of each other and fights were all but guaranteed.

I was lucky enough to live in an IHL town (minor league hockey) which was basically ice boxing.

Patrick,

My sister is turning into a Masshole for all sports but Hockey. Every time I visit her, she's always sporting some piece of beantown sportsware except for the Bruins jersey, but she'd be disowned if she stopped following Devils hockey, although we have caught a few games together when I've visited her. I love the Boston Garden (No, I will not call it the TD Banknorth Garden thank you very much!), it's one of my favorite old school arenas to watch in.

I'm a fan of Jersey/A and Jersey/B so it'll be interesting to see whether the Jets can produce a better record than the Pats down the stretch. Brady's gotten so much better now that the Pats got rid of Moss. Don't get me wrong, Moss is a hell of a reciever, but he plays a much more vertical game than Brady has played in the past. Without him, Brady gets the added advantage of playing a more dynamic game over a shorter space with a better reciever corp.

Who do you think is gonna be in the Superbowl facing the Pats?

Hap,

I try to make it out to the 'burgh 2-3 times a year. I have a few fraternity brothers that I try and see who live out that way. I'm not much of a fan of the Steel City, but Primani Brothers isn't that bad for a sandwhich shop.

Eddie,

What did you expect? Never bet against the house man. I thought that was rule number 1 when you get married, never answer your wife's questions with something that could make you look like the asshole.

As to the IHL, the closest I got was watching the Johnstown Cheifs (and yes, I have a Hanson jersey.... or 3...) which was about an hour away from State College. It was a pain to get to for the 3-4 games my buddies and I went to, but was fun. Yeah, it really is ice boxing.

Boston sports all the way. I'm not really a sports fan, but I do get out to a handful of Red Sox / Bruins / Celtics games every season. I'm a soccer player though I don't get to see my own sport that often - it is infinitely harder to get folks to go to a Revolution game than it is a Red Sox game.

Never been to a pats game, though the pats are high on my list. It's just pretty damn hard to get good pats tickets and driving to a pats game is a hike. My dad's company has a corporate box in TD Bank Garden so I can get tickets for free and sit in the box for Celtics/Bruins games, which is pretty appealing. Our service providers are always dying to take us out to a Red Sox game, so I'm invited to Red Sox games all the time. Pats -- just never happens. And no service provider has ever offered to take me to a Revs game -- so humph!

Comp,

I feel ya on getting out to a Pats game. That's like trying to get good tickets for a Jets/Giants game. Not that I dislike the trek to the Medowlands (I used to go regularly when the Devils played at Brendan Byrne Arena... yeah, I went the governor's name instead of corporate sponsors...) but the fans are fucking atrocious at Giants Stadium... Plus, with the new seating fees, it's pretty pricey to get tickets as well. Unless it's for a game I really want ('Cuse/Penn State for example) I'd rather enjoy from the comfort of my couch.

I've only been to two football games in my life, one was a Giants/Eagles game at the Vet when I was ten. What a scary place the Vet is, and Eagles fan are a league unto themselves. Worse than Flyers fans by half the length of Philly. I ate something there that made me sick + I had grown men flip out at me, insult me and throw shit at me for wearing a Giants jersey (I was ten going with an Eagles fan who didn't say anything about wearing a Big Blue jersey). The other was in the Steel City. Now those guys are fucking nuts when it comes to football. I'd love to see another Steelers game, but next is something a bit more local for me.

Patrick,

I saw the video, that's great. I was supposed to go to a Boca match two or three years ago but my flight got delayed by 1 day and I ended up missing it at a result. I was extremely pissed!!!

I'm going to be in Argentina again for Christmas this year (my girlfriend is Argentine), but looks like we'll be spending it at the summer house rather than in BA. Don't think we'll be able to watch a match as a result. It's my fourth trip down there -- Argentina is such a sweet country. I'm insanely jealous of you and your 6-month stint, I wish I could do the same. If the economy wasn't so unstable she and I would move there permanently!

I do not want to label someone a troll or censor posts when I am personally involved with them. I think it would be a conflict of interest!

Oh, I will be starting work full time this coming Wednesday so I am contemplating a name change or something to give myself some room if my employer every stumbles onto WSO. Nothing committed yet, just throwing it out there.

Another option could be "The Professor" although I also like "TheGodfather"

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

Edmundo-- Do you mind posting that PDF to your rum guide or send it to [email protected] (can you believe someone actually has [email protected])

Also, what's the over-under when Anthony will dethrone you as King of the posters? The spread is tightening everyday....

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

you guys forget that i took a YEAR off from this site. Otherwise I would likely have double the bananas i have now. Probably over 3k

dude the site took a year off from you... dont get it twisted.

EDDIE.. when is NOLA?

I guess he just had too much SIZE and it needed time to recuperate.

Anthony--AdjunctBanker?

Anthony will never be able to pass Edmundo. Once Anthony starts working full time he will be toast, never to recover again.

Monty -- you're going to have me licked by the end of the year, no doubt. Where are you applying/attending b-school? My apps are going out early January so we may end up classmates come next fall.

i plan to apply to Rice and Texas(only for lev at rice) round 3-5

Seeing as I'm the only one here not doing B-School, I've got 3 years before I reenter the working world, so good luck to all you guys in your MBA endeavorers. If you need Legal Counsel, then we can talk.

Damn,

everyone is going to Bschool...Im going to be all alone :(

Shorttheworld why are you going Bschool if you don't mind me asking? A break from trading and the chance to have fun at Bschool?

B-school is where the party's at! I feel as though my non-Texan-ness puts me at a huge disadvantage for the group here... Let me know if any of you end up at MIT!

Yeah, grad school is where it is at :(. Sad to leave.

Yeah, I cannot close the gap with Edmundo. Not possible. Looking forward to work though, will be nice to get back to the grind. My girlfriend sure as hell is looking forward to not paying for all the meals hahah.

My new name is going to be Raptor. They used to call me that at Nova because I would hunt women like a Raptor. Or Predator because I would mad creep.

Friends don't let friends pick names that make them sound like some sort of Porno reject ..that's my personal image when I hear the name "Raptor".

I completely support the Godfather...with you number of posts, it makes sense.

Comp-----Did you get accepted to MIT?

I feel like the outcast of this group. I hated school you couldnt pay me to go back.

See I can't wait to get started, but at the same time I kinda want to go to Bschool. A chance to make some new friends, relax for two years, and fix any mistakes you had in College. I mean think about it, how many things would you change/do if we were able to redo the HS or college experience.

Given the # of Silver Bananas Anthony has collected I think Godfather is pretty appropriate.

Don't think anyone will threaten your SB lead for a while...unless this new user 10xleverage becomes addicted to WSO. You see his first thread? 187 comments already - over Thanksgiving.

I guess that's what happens when you mention MS M&A and KKR in the same thread title -- fucking crazy.

What is insane is that he got over 200 bananas and 35 SBs in under 48 hours....puts all of us to shame.

EDIT: 43 SB in under 36 hours.

The thread was great, but I think the best part was when he said most of KKR scans WSO.

God, why am I not in bed.?.......my dog sleeps on my pillow more than I do.

Gekko -- I'm not applying to MIT, but it is in my hometown of Boston!

10xleverage definitely made great contributions through that thread. I read through the whole thing and learned a bit myself. As a middle market enthusiast, what saddens me is the absolute obsession that students seem to have with megafunds. Everyone seems so eager to sign away their 20s in exchange for the prestige of KKR --- and 90% of them don't even know what the job entails! Thank god WSO is around to educate them.

There is serious head up ass syndrome on this board. These kids get an erection whenever KKR or some other mega fund/ BB Sponsors/ etc is mentioned. In reality most will work for lesser known shops. My friend works for a good sized restructuring firm in NYC and he says it is 10x better than a BB bank. Place is private so they spend money on stuff that the BB's couldn't. Try telling that to the guys on this site and you will get monkey shit thrown at you.

Way too much linearity going on in these guys minds.

energy related but i had someone tell me they would never work at Jeff in Houston even with them paying the highest. How dumb is that. THEY PAY THE MOST.. FACT but you will still go work elsewhere for less money because people on here say its better. Tudor pays the same but it is not Barcap,CS and people make fun of it. Again you will make the most money but people dont want to here that.

its funny to some point then get very sad.

No Nick I did not get laid enough hoping to change that when the fist pump gets settled. Speaking of SB, I am out of WSO credits because I used it all throwing monkey shit as thisdude and New Yorker.

If I could do it all over again im not sure I would change anything. Its definitely been the long road but ultimately I am where I want to be. Working with people that you like means so much more to me than the prestige.

"Oh the ladies ever tell you that you look like a fucking optical illusion" - Frank Slaughtery 25th Hour.

Lol New Yorker used to be another user, but he got a new ID. I actually have the kid on my linkedin. He can be an ok poster and then all of a sudden he can be a douche. Pretty sad since he isn't anything spectacular himself.

Patrick, mind giving trade4size a bailout of SB?

Yeah, I helped New Yorker a lot with his resume and answering questions, but that was before he became a complete asshole. He gets an internship at Well Fargo and all of a sudden he thinks he is a BSD. He has some experience in South Africa, but that attitude. When it comes to real bullying (aka not playing around) I take the Ben Affleck approach......Pick your ass up out of that Italian leather chair and get the fuck outta this room.
