The Restructuring Group
I created The Restructuring Group because I worked in Rothschild's restructuring group from 2002-2004 and figured we could all network and talk about the business which is probably booming right about now. Join if you work at an investment bank in the restructuring group or are interested in this field.

Accountants vs. Lawyers
Sorry for the title, but I noticed that most of the MDs at places like HLHZ and Close Brothers had backgrounds in law or accounting. Seeing as I graduated last Spring, an analyst stint at a restructuring shop is not a possibility but I would like to position myself for an associate position a few years down the line.
I went to college in the U.S. but I grew up in France so I would definitely like to shoot for firms in Europe (London). What do you think is the best background for someone trying to get in to a place like HLHZ? I'm planning on taking the LSATs in June but I'm also thinking of applying to Big 4 restructuring practices in London for the fall. Any suggestions?
How to prepare
I noticed this subject came up on a prior thread. For those of us finishing up school, we have about 5-6 months before we start joining our respective firms. If some of the experienced restructuring analysts and associates could give some advice on how to prepare, it would be helpful.
If there are books, publications, or websites you find relevant, then hopefully you can share it with the rest of us.
consulting restructuring vs. banking restructuring?
hey everyone, I'm coming from a little different background as I just signed with FTI Consulting's corpfin restructuring group. I'll be starting next fall in a west coast office. For those of you experienced in the field, I'm completely new to this industry sector and although my position certainly doesnt qualify as banking to any extent, how will my work be similar or different from a banks restructuring practice? Anybody have contacts who've worked for a consultancy's restructuring practice?
Anyways, I'm excited either way and am just happy to have a job.
Goldman Restructuring Co-Head Leaves Post
There's been a lot of speculation on the law blogs about the real rationale for this move. Sprayregen's a pretty big name. It'll be interesting to so who (if anyone) GS taps to fill his spot.

What next?
Patrick and others,
What are some tips you have for the newbies in the restructuring space in terms of getting the most out of our analyst experience? In the traditional healthy M&A to PE I know that modeling and transaction experience are key aspects, but what can we add to that?
I've been learning a lot about bankruptcy law, etc., but what else might a distressed PE or HF be looking for in a potential candidate above the usual?
Thanks

Restructuring during healthy years?
Hey guys,
I'm a student not a practitioner but am interested in restructuring.
I'm just curious if anyone knows how restructuring was during the boom times - 2003-2007?
I realize that restructuring is hot right now but don't know if it will be when I graduate in 2011. Hopefully, our economy will be doing better by the time.
So could anyone comment on how the restructuring business was in 2003-2004 or about how they view the future of restructuring in 2010-2015?
Maybe with a healthy economy - there will be an oversupply of restructuring specialists, given current demand? just speculating.
Thanks for creating this group!
Hey Guys
hey Everyone - welcome!
So do any of you currently work in restructuring? If so, where at (if you don't mind sharing...)
I was at Rothschild in 2002-2004.
