Associate Director, College Programs

Login or Register to Apply

The Organization
We are a national non-profit that has made ground-breaking progress developing the next generation of African-American, Hispanic, and Native American leaders in major corporations, non-profit organizations, and entrepreneurial ventures.

We are passionate about helping individuals achieve their full potential. It does so by equipping underrepresented minorities with the hard and soft skills, career roadmap, coaching, mentoring, and door-opening relationships required to become the high-impact business and community leaders of tomorrow. MLT creates value through structured programs:
• College Programs’ flagship program is the Career Preparation Program (CP) for college juniors and seniors preparing to get on the career fast-track. Through one-on-one coaching, extensive skill development seminars, exposure to prestigious employers, and access to a vast alumni network, they are positioned for a powerful launch to their career.
• MBA Programs’ flagship program is the MBA Prep (MBAP) Program for young professionals seeking to gain admission to a top MBA program. By participating in extensive skill development seminars and working with both an admissions and professional development coach to clearly define their passions and career goals, they are positioned to use the MBA as a springboard to long-term career success
• The Career Advancement Program (CAP) is for senior leaders seeking to reach the C-level. In partnership with the Yale University School of Management, CAP has created a talent development curriculum to help mid-level leaders refine their problem-solving, relationship building, and communication skills.

These programs have successfully graduated over 2,000 alumni to date.

Position Overview
The College Programs Associate Director role is an exciting opportunity to help lead the efforts of the Career Prep (CP) team which guides undergraduate Fellows through a preparatory roadmap that will help them maximize their experience, skills, and ability to secure a high-caliber summer internship and full-time job offer. The Associate Director will report to and work closely with the College Programs Director as a thought partner to enhance the CP experience and effectiveness, and streamline/improve business processes as College Programs expands. The Associate Director will have project management and potential coaching responsibilities. S/he will develop and implement curriculum, provide personalized guidance to Fellows on critical career management skills, and assist with program evaluation and analysis. This is a high profile role that has tremendous impact on the future of program Fellows, the business community, and the MLT organization.

The ideal candidate must have in-depth corporate experience, preferably in Financial Services or Management Consulting. S/he will possess a keen ability for detail and a strong ability to execute, a thorough understanding of the corporate recruiting landscape, and an outstanding ability to build and manage relationships with program participants, MLT staff, and corporate partners. The Associate Director must excel in a fast-paced environment, have the ability to multitask effectively, and possess an entrepreneurial spirit.

Ideally, the College Programs Associate Director will be based in NYC and work from the MLT office; however, strong candidates from outside the NYC area will be seriously considered and, if hired, permitted to work remotely.

• Partner with the Director to develop and execute the overall College Programs/Career Prep strategic vision
• Draw on industry expertise, preferably in financial services or management consulting, to develop processes and procedures to ensure the delivery of consistent and high-quality ‘career readiness’ training to Career Prep Fellows
• Define, execute, and facilitate Career Prep events, seminars, and webinars, including development of seminar goals, structure, and content
• Manage development, delivery, evaluation and improvement of the Career Prep curriculum focused on self-assessment, industry exposure, job search techniques, skill development, and career exploration
• Liaise with MLT staff, alumni, and external MLT partners to achieve a career management and professional development strategy that develops sector expertise and an understanding of industry-specific competencies
• Work with Partnerships team to develop engagement opportunities that support Fellows’ maximum exposure to MLT corporate partners, with a focus on understanding partner needs and providing the best talent to fit those needs, ultimately increasing partner ROI
• Stay abreast of trends impacting MLT corporate and business school partners
• Develop tracking process for metrics and report on outcomes to Director
• Review applications to Career Prep Program and make recommendations for admission
• May evaluate and coach a small portfolio of Fellows through monthly career management curriculum relating to effective self-exploration, information gathering, resume and cover letter writing, personal marketing, networking, interviewing, decision making, and other career development processes

Qualifications:
• 5 years of corporate experience, preferably in Financial Services or Management Consulting
• Exceptional project management ability
• Experiential knowledge of what it takes to succeed in high-caliber entry-level corporate positions
• Entrepreneurial mindset/perspective – able to be highly resourceful while operating across functions
• Strong interest and ability to coach or counsel high potential undergraduates
• Knowledge of career management topics such as self assessment and career exploration, resume and cover letter writing, networking, and interviewing
• Excellent presentation, communication (oral and written), and interpersonal skills
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
• Must be able to travel & attend events on several nights and weekends throughout the year
• Bachelors degree required, Masters preferred.
