JumpStart NYC - Talent Transition Program for laid off Financial Services Professionals
www.levininstitute.org/jumpstartnyc
JumpStart NYC is a three-month program providing new skills, knowledge, and mindset to allow junior and mid-level staff losing positions in the financial services sector to find positions providing value in new sectors. The program blends classroom instruction, personal study, a professional fellowship opportunity in a firm, exposure to leaders and thinking in different sectors, and guided opportunities to encourage the participants to develop active networks to help their careers. This program was developed at the request of the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
Structurally, JumpStart NYC begins with a one week bootcamp (in a classroom) delivered at The Levin Institute. Participants will then begin the ten-week corporate internship. During this period, Levin will hold regular meetings, and involve the participants in Levin networking opportunities. All Levin educational programs involve guided networking as a crucial element, and our graduates testify that this is a prime advantage of their Levin experience. Levin students are taught how to effectively network in New York, and to use this to advance their careers. Levin’s strategy involves ambitious institutional partnerships that will be used to broaden participants’ networks. Levin plans numerous public education events to which participants will be invited. Innovate New York is a Levin program beginning in April, featuring six evening programs, focusing on innovation in fields such as media, finance, services, global entrepreneurship, life sciences, and arts and culture. Levin plans a major program on US-China Relations, and will host several smaller programs. Bi-weekly seminars will be scheduled coincident with these events. One month before the program’s conclusion, a day-and-a-half session will target “How I deliver value”, to maximize their chance of success of landing a position
The program includes:
One week study at the Levin Institute
Ten week internships at companies
Bi-weekly evening seminars at The Levin Institute
Wrap-up session during week 8 (Thursday afternoon and all day Friday)
Conceived by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), JumpStart NYC is a new program for recently unemployed New York City financial services professionals. The program goal is to provide the tools, skills and opportunities for a select group of talented professionals to reposition themselves so that they may contribute to NYC entrepreneurial ventures. The fledging new businesses of NYC represent the path toward future growth and sustainability of the city’s economy. The talent that drove the financial services sector is an important asset to NYC and JumpStart is designed to retain and reposition this talent.
The NYCEDC has partnered with the Levin Institute to launch the first JumpStart NYC program in April. The program features an intensive week of hands-on education for fifty participants to be delivered at The Levin Institute followed by a ten-week fellowship in an entrepreneurial firm. Fellowships will include a range of companies from various industry sectors including digital media, green technology, life sciences, as well as a few select non-profit organizations.
Individuals who may qualify for the program are encouraged to apply. Companies and organizations that may be able to host a professional fellowship are also encouraged to submit their information.
