Electronic Broking
The world’s premier interdealer broker and provider of post trade risk and information services, connecting buyers and sellers in the world’s financial markets. Fast-moving. Innovative. Meritocratic. It’s an exciting business, a growing business, a hub of innovation. A place where talent and ambition thrive – and where each day brings another opportunity, another challenge, another chance to prove your potential.
We are a billion dollar company, with approximately 4,900 employees in 32 countries. We provide market-leading voice and electronic broking services to a huge variety of clients, including all the major investment and commercial banks. This means matching buyers and sellers in the wholesale markets for interest rates, credit, commodities, foreign exchange, equities, equity derivatives and shipping, in deals worth in excess of US$1.4trillion a day. This can be done over the phone and in person by specialist voice brokers, or by clients using our electronic networks directly. We also offer a range of post trade risk and information services, providing data and helping organizations reduce operational and systemic risk in their markets.
Electronic broking
As markets become more liquid and products become more standardized they are increasingly traded on electronic broking platforms – automated systems that bring large numbers of buyers and sellers together ‘virtually’, allowing traders to ‘match themselves’ in trades.
Like all interdealer brokers, the firm has developed its own trading platforms offering clients lower costs, increased speed and ease of execution. Indeed, we are the world’s leading provider of high-performance electronic trading platforms to the global over-the-counter markets.
One of the fastest growing parts of the firm, our trading systems enable thousands of traders in over 50 countries to gain orderly, reliable and fair access to highly liquid and transparent markets, across a range of assets and instruments.
BrokerTec
BrokerTec electronic broking offers a range of electronic trading options covering an array of Fixed Income products. The BrokerTec platform brings together multiple demographics of traders – large institutional bank traders, high frequency trading firms and professional trading groups.
BrokerTec – the leading facilitator of liquidity to the trading community for products including US Treasuries, US and EU repo, Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS), US Agency Securities, Canadian Government Bonds (GOC), European Government Bonds (EBG), Credit Default Swaps (CDS), Eurobonds and UK Gilts.
The role of an electronic broker
Electronic brokers don’t get involved in the actual ‘matching’ of buyers and sellers, what they do instead is work to ensure that our platforms are being used by as many clients as possible, as often as possible.
As a trainee broker with BrokerTec you will be given the foundation to move into customer facing sales role through learning about the products and platforms in the market control, market support, and product areas of the business.
Your career can develop from being accountable for financial instrument and customer databases, customer support and market intervention, and supporting product design and quality assurance processes to meeting with and talking to clients about their trading needs and how the platforms can meet their requirements.
You will monitor markets, process change requests, control commission charges and permissions for external users, maintain the customer contact database and work in conjunction with our international offices in London and Tokyo.
The role relies on providing excellent internal and external client service from monitoring the quality of our service, overseeing a quick and effective response to any problems that arise; exploring ways of growing existing accounts as well as pitching for new business; identifying improvements we can make to our platforms; and ultimately building and maintaining relationships.
Who are we looking for?
Our business is all about building relationships – both internal and external – and you'll need to be able to form effective, professional networks quickly. You'll also need to be comfortable working with technology, but we cannot emphasize enough that electronic broking is not a technical role.
