Dresdner quarterly loss may extend stay on auction block

Frankfurt-based lender Dresdner Bank AG is on the auction block, but its Thursday announcement of an operating loss of €566 million ($867 million) in the second quarter likely is souring its prospects with potential suitors. The loss was revealed amid reports that weakening economies may stymie the sale of the country's biggest retail lender, Deutsche Postbank AG. Analysts earlier this year heralded the auctions of Dresdner and Deutsche Postbank as a step forward in a much needed consolidation of the German banking sector....
