Bernanke's future bleak. Ben Bernanke's first term as Fed chairman expires in two years. With growing criticism that the Fed was behind the curve on recent market turmoil, Bernanke's best chance of another term is presumably if a Republican wins the presidency. The problem? John McCain, the likely candidate, has been less-than-flattering of Bernanke.

Would this make him the first fed chief to not be reappointed?
That would be pretty embarassing.

Strangely enough, he may get rightly replaced for the wrong reasons. It's just wishful thinking when "Wall Street," whoever that is supposed to be in this article (maybe Cramer?), says that Bernanke, the Fed, or any branch of the federal government has the ability to fix the mess created by a massive speculative bubble.
However, the Fed mainly exists to combat inflation, and it's tough to say whether he's done a good job of that. I'm not really qualified to judge. In 1990 inflation was 5.39%, though, and that was under Greenspan, who even Milton Friedman thinks did an excellent job.

Well I've always thought it's Greenspan who started this crap anyways, and Bernanke is just trying to cleaning his butt. Very much like whoever's gonna be the next president will have to clean Bush's butt.
