BB PWM Internship Question -- Please Help!

AvonBarksdale's picture
by AvonBarksdale User's RSS Feed (Chimp, 4 Banana Points Points) on 8/23/10 at 10:49am

I am currently a rising junior at a "target" school looking to land an internship for next summer at a BB in either I-Banking or Sales & Trading. Since I'm not majoring in either Econ or Finance I'm trying to demonstrate my interest in finance early to get my foot in the door. I'm now finishing the last few weeks of my internship at a BB in PWM but looking back I realize that I didn't do much meaningful work that I could really talk about in an interview. For the most part the work was mostly BS stuff (Cold Calling/Administrative Stuff) so I took the initiative to try to learn some financial concepts on my own which has been helpful but not enough.

HELP: JPM London Office Banking Internship interview process

acl's picture
by acl User's RSS Feed (Senior Chimp, 28 Banana Points Points) on 5/22/10 at 6:56am

Guys,

I have been selected for interviews with JPM(London). It took quite a lot to get to this position and I am fretting about the entire internship selection process.

I am aware that initially there are numerical screenings, followed by intial interviews. Then superday, which includes role playing and group discussions.

I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know of their experiences with the process? How is the numerical screeing? any calculus involved? anywhere I can get a few practices?

Also what does role playing and group discussion involve?

Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts!!!

ACL

Unpaid Internship working 70-80 hours--Legit?

JacobsLadder01's picture
by JacobsLadder01 User's RSS Feed (Chimp, 5 Banana Points Points) on 5/14/10 at 11:44am

Hey guys, is this a good opportunity, or is this straight-up abuse and doing menial work. Would you do it?

I know internships that are unpaid, but isn't this typically on a part-time basis? Aren't full-time internships (at least if you're doing almost full IB hours) paid?

Internship rejects only

I've been rejected from more banks, funds, equity funds, brokers, commodities firms, asset management, boutiques..... than anyone this summer. Well they can kiss my ass. This is a forum to let it all out. Don't be shy, and if you came in here to brag about your fancy internship in NYC, I will find some way to make your life miserable. Let the emotions flow............................................................

I know it is really late in the process. A couple of interviews didn't work out. If anybody knows of any positions for SA in New York City this summer please reach out to me and message me. I would be more than willing to send my resume and cover letter for consideration.

Hello everyone. I currently looking for housing this summer in NYC from May 30th to August 14th. It is now too late to apply for any decent NYU apartments. I will be interning downtown and am looking for something in that area. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to live? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

HELP: Oppenheimer Summer Internship Offer

dsp17's picture
by dsp17 User's RSS Feed (Chimp, 2 Banana Points Points) on 3/25/10 at 11:10am

Just received an summer internship offer for Oppenheimer & Co (Asset Management). Currently trying to weigh my options and need to pull the trigger soon, but they said it'll take about 2 weeks to get me the final info. Anyone summer interned there before? How structured is it? Good experience? What's the pay like? Thanks.

Looking at smaller hedgefund offers in comparison.

Research or i-banking????? help

Yguff88's picture
by Yguff88 User's RSS Feed (Chimp, 2 Banana Points Points) on 3/8/10 at 2:59pm

I am trying to decide where to accept an offer and the deadline is tomorrow!
PNC in their Asset Backed Securities group (investment banking)
and
Macquarie in Research (equity research).

These are for summer internships. Currently, i want to go into consulting or something in the entertainment industry/finance after college. the macquarie gig is in the TMT group and so that lines up with my interests pretty well. But the PNC job i think would allow me to learn more about finance as a whole. Do not know what to do!

will education/experience in non-finance business fields hurt me?

sternie11's picture
by sternie11 User's RSS Feed (Chimp, 7 Banana Points Points) on 3/3/10 at 12:49pm

i'm a finance & marketing major, with an international business co-major. 3.65 gpa. i want to get into banking. not necessarily IBD, was hoping to get a mid-corporate banking analyst position for the summer (i'm a junior) but it didn't work out. i'm fairly certain it's to do with my lack of experience & the fact that i had a last minute phone interview that i was not at all prepared for.

i'm currently looking for a summer internship that will get me some finance experience because the only experience i currently have is working at a "finance & accounting" corporate internship (but really it was just accounting). i've also interned in marketing/business development for a small but growing entreupreneurial firm.

how do i leverage this experience for a banking internship? at this point i know i definitely want to do finance. clearly, i'm not one of those tunnel vision business school students who knew exactly what they wanted to do from day one. i experimented a little with internships in other fields, even other majors. will this hurt me? should i leave my marketing major off my resume?

*Revised* Freshman Non Target Resume Review

notjonstewart's picture
by notjonstewart User's RSS Feed (Senior Chimp, 23 Banana Points Points) on 3/3/10 at 11:58am

Hey Everbody,

A few days back I posted a copy of my resume. I have since revised it to the shorter and more concise M&I template and I wanted some feedback. I'm still in the process of looking for summer internships and as a freshman I'll take anything I can get. I've tried to tailor it as much to banking/finance as I can. I do have some high school items on there, but considering I'm freshman I thought it wouldn't be too out of place. Any constructive feedback, advice or recomendations are thoroughly appreciated. Thanks and here it is:
