First, a word of warning. The article I'm referring to in this thread was posted on BroBible, so you probably don't want to click the link at work unless you want all kinds of alarm bells to go off in your IT department. It's safe for work, but I've been told that some banks have BroBible on their blacklist so it probably isn't worth the risk.

Now, we've had some lively discussions here on the site about drinking etiquette, and even livelier discussions about tipping etiquette. So I knew you guys would be interested to read this piece written by a female New York City bartender entitled, "Confessions of a Bartender: 10 Things Every Bartender Absolutely Hates About You".

Based on the title you'd think that it would be pretty general stuff and not directed toward any one demographic in particular, but you'd be wrong. It seems the author, one Stefanie Williams of the Upper East Side, really has it in for bankers. Like, really has it in for bankers. Her favorite story, in fact, is the one about how she basically got three bank interns fired for leaving her a shitty tip (and being assholes about it).

mod note (Andy) see part one here

The breeze is brisk, the Starbucks cups are red, and the sidewalks of New York City are crowded body-to-body with packs of overweight tourists and kids on leashes. With football season in full swing and the winter doldrums looming large, summer days spent slamming beers at The Standard beer garden are but a distant memory. The holiday season is upon us, and while investment banking analysts across Wall Street are girding for a fiscal cliff-induced Christmas deal staffing special, a hint of holiday cheer hangs around the bullpen. That’s because around this time of year, junior investment bankers celebrate a Wall Street tradition as hallowed as the almighty 100-page Strategic Alternatives pitch. Monkeys rejoice – it’s Holiday Party season.

Technological Disruption and the Decline of College Bars

Ah, how technology is constantly changing our culture. It wasn't long ago when you had to plan events weeks or months in advance to get something accomplished. Nowadays, you'd be foolish to do such a thing. Moreover, now college bars are apparently beginning to feel the pinch of technology on their business model.

Best bars in NYC

I was seriously in a bar at mid-town last night and every one of the girl that appealed to me was either an finance intern, or working in Asset Mgmt or M&A.

Pretty sure if you're in banking its a good idea to steer clear of any girls in Finance. In fact its probably a good idea for everyone.

I've only stuck to the typical: Dorrian's, Joshua's Tree, Turtle Bay and Stone Street because I work right next to there. Any other recommendations?

Looking for age range 23/24/25 is the best not older and not under-age interns.

Any good bars, ideally southern themed (I heard there's a southern subculture in NYC?), for two southern guys in NYC to enjoy the national championship? Cheap beer would also be ideal. Can anyone think of any good spots? Thanks.

So monkeys, its always a question that is gonna elicit different opinions so thought it would be good to post.

How do you approach hot women?

I'm from Sydney initially, so I always rely on personal characteristics (i.e. accent) to make an introduction and the rest is up to me. But curious to see how you approach them.

I've seen creative methods but also simple lame ones like telling her you think she is hot!

Your thoughts please (no trolls)

Hey,

I just wanted to ask wether any one of you ever had the opportunity to explore the nightlife in Shanghai and could therefore suggest some good night clubs or bars. The other day I had a really good time in the "Windows Bar" wich attracted a very international crowd... so now I'm looking for other places just like it. Places that would attract international students from all over the world who are just looking to have a good time rather than the high priced luxury bars with skyline view.

thanks

So, I am going to NYC this week with my wife. I am from there, but only as an under-age high schooler. I never really went bar hopping in the city except for J-tree few times with my old friends.

My wife wants to go to a cool, upscale place (think martini bar with live jazz). Is there any bars you guys know of where you can actually walk in, sit down, order a drink, and have a conversation at a normal decibel level with some chill music playing?

Don't get me wrong, I loved grinding on random chicks at J-Tree singing 'sunglasses at knight' for the 100th time, pounding vodka redbulls and LI Ice Teas, but I'm a little older now and want to just take my lady to a nice place.

Its almost 7pm and I still have a hangover. Anyone have any cures? I have been drinking water and chewing advil but am still not feeling good.

Food? More water? More rest?

Just some background: it was my 21st last night, I rarely drink and weigh 130lbs, I put back about 21 drinks (+/- 2). Also, I woke up with somebody else's underwear on (which was inside out and backwards). I don't remember much of the night, but there is photo evidence of me hooking up with a larger girl while I was wearing a kimono and a Luigi hat. Apparently I went swimming naked around 5am as well.

But yeah, any advice on hangovers would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I work at a trading desk on the West Coast (California) from 6:00am to 3:00pm local time. Which means I need to get up before 5am to get ready for work every day.

I also would like to be able to hit up some bars or clubs with friends on the weekends, usually from 10pm to 2am. I'm curious about how those of you on the west coast working similar hours handle this as I don't readjust very well to these changes in my waking schedule..

Hopped off the plane a few hours ago, and I have two days to kill in NYC.

My summer internship in IB starts in 2 days. First time on the East Coast, and I don't know anyone in the area.

I want to keep the sightseeing shit to a bare minimum. I'm thinking just taking the subway to Wall Street and maybe taking a look at the Statue of Liberty. Maybe check out a museum. Maybe the Empire State, but that's about it for the sightseeing. Don't want to spend more time on that.

I will be in NoHo for the summer. Any good suggestions for stuff to do for the next two days? Bars, Museums, etc?

Trip to NY - What should we do?

My girlfriend and I are headed to NY for a week in early May and we've never been before.

So far we have planned on doing a lot of tourist stuff like:

-going to some museums
-Yankees game
-Broadway musical
-perhaps check out the statue of liberty
-checking out some restaurants
-shopping
-and generally walking around a lot (central park, etc)

But... does anyone have any opinions on some things we must see or do?

which bars/pubs?

Where can I watch some playoff Hockey (stereotypical Canadian)?

Any other tips?
