Smart Casual Wear

Can someone explain how I figure out a wardrobe for a summer analyst position please?

Is 'smart casual' just a shirt and trousers with no tie? What shoes do I buy? Do I wear something ontop of the shirt like a jacket or cardigan?

What colours, how many, brands that are good/crap and so on would be greatly appreciated.

I'm quite literally shopping for the first time (barring the single suit I use for interviews) so don't really have a clue.

Sorry if this thread has been posted up before. And no - no one in my family is a 'professional' so I can't ask them.

Thanks.

What is the dress code for the equity research department of a boutique investment bank in NYC? I'll wear a suit after that, but I don't have that many business clothes, so it would be good to know.

suit: Brioni
tie: Hermes
handkerchief: Tom Ford
briefcase: Louis Vuitton
pen: Montblanc

Not looking to break the budget but definitely want to upgrade for various outings.

Hey,

I found out about this store a little bit ago. I was a little skeptical, but really like the pants and dress shirts. I have a few of the suit pants, and wear them to the office.

http://bono.bs/x/qi8Vo

I don't work for this company, but I do get a referral bonus.

You get $25 off your first order. If you live in one of the major cities that have a store and want to get stuff, PM me and I can explain how you can get 50 off your first order.

Anyone know any good places that are having sales currently?
Here's what I've gathered:

Charles Tyrwhitt: http://www.ctshirts.com/default.aspx?q=usgob|||||||||||||||
Brooks Brothers: (check in store) http://www.brooksbrothers.com/men.process
Allen Edmond: got an email saying some sale 2 for $300..but I think it's in store

There's also a Helmut Lang sample sale going on in NYC if anyone is around.

Anyone know good places to pick up slim suits and nice (but cheap) shoes for a 1st year banker?

Hey, Going to full time in the Fall and I need a new wardrobe. I am looking to go MTM, and I read a review on here about Mohan Tailors. It looked good, but the post kind of seemed a bit like a sales pitch which made me suspicious. Does anyone have any experience with Mohan (their 6 shirts for 400 with 2 free shirts sounds a bit too good to be true), or think a different place would be better? I have heard Alton Lane, My Suit NY, Indochino, CEGO, and LS Mens.

Thanks!

My main market is closed, lucky you guys, here is a useful post!

No one gives a damn, as long as you look half decent and don't wear red trousers and a clown nose...

If you are a summer analyst / just started - don't fuck up the breakfast order that's all we ask of you.
After you have worked in the job for a while you will know what others are wearing, and will be able to adapt.

Simples.

Here is a few things:
An intern that rocks in his dad's suit - might be a bit too large, so what? Most likely it's a 21 year old straight out of college that looks like a kid anyways. Go with dad's suit, it's cheap; no one will notice you anyways as your value added is zero.

Braces Out of Style for Younger Men (Under 50)?

I get the impression that wearing braces is out of place and out of style for men under 50. Is this true? I mean, I sort of miss the days when more guys could wear them and they'd look good. But now, in this GQ fashion day and age, it appears that younger men and maybe even older guys just shouldn't do it. Just wear a belt and be done with it seems the mantra.

What do you guys think?

I'm looking to pick up one, possibly two dress shirts for interviewing. (I don't want to buy a ton of shirts until I actually receive an offer.) What are some cheap options in NYC (less than $100/shirt)?

What I'm particularly looking for:

-TAILORED FIT (this is most important, and it's particularly difficult since I have long arms--if I size down enough to have a shirt fit well in the chest, the sleeves are normally way too short)
-White
-Barrel cuff
-No chest pocket
-Spread (or something similar) collar

I travel a lot and hate ironing so I am looking for the best wrinkle free dress clothes. I have tried a bunch that claim to be wrinkle/iron free but they still wrinkle easily (banana republic, dkny, and others). So far the best I have found are Jos Bank. Not so much in clothing quality but their travelers collection does a great job of not getting wrinkled.

Any suggestions?

I took this off of a posting by JohnnyCrockett on Style Forum. It’s a great site, and everyone should check it out. Thought the post was a really good round-up of what to buy for your first out-of-college wardrobe. Take all of it with a grain of salt considering it is posted on, well, a forum about men’s style. I disagree on a few points (below), but otherwise it is a really good round-up of what to wear:

-I don’t wear undershirts ever. Don’t like how they look, but also I don’t sweat that much so I never feel the need for them.

-Although I wear cuffed pants, I think it's fine not to wear cuffs. More of a personal preference and an American vs. European style thing.

Need to get my wardrobe ready for my FT IBD gig. Wanted to make a thread where all of us could give feedback (argue) over what is the best brands/styles for analysts.

1. Dress Shirts - All I have experienced is Nordstrom and the Bloomies branded shirts. Bloomies absolutely suck and they make me look fat. The Nordstrom ones are decent. Each about $50-60.

2. Ties - Ferragamo and Hermes are VERY nice ties. Although they are $130-160 a pop. I have a LV tie that I really like, but need other recommendations.

3. Suits - Zegna by far I think is the best suit you can buy. I also have a Hugo Boss, but need at least one more. Ideas?
