Graduated Today, Job Search Continues, Advice Needed

Hello WSO,
been lurking for a while, love this site and the witty commenters.
Have a question, but first heres background.
Graduating this week, no job offer. Dece GPA, non-banking experience but have better internships than waiting tables or working at car washes (though I did that for a little summer liquidity).

I'd like to end up (of course) in IB... to be honest at a boutique actually. I think it suits my personality and independence.
But I am a very realistic person. I know I'm not getting an IBD offer out of school, especially this late in the game. Got a call recently for a JPMorgan Chase Commercial Banking Analyst interview. I took it because who can be picky in my situation?
But now I'm second-guessing everything after reading around, talking to people, going on WSO.

Major Oil to Physical Trading Shop

I work for one of the major oil companies as an FP&A analyst for one of the trade groups in the Commercial organization. I have an interview lined up with one of the major pure physical trading shops (think Vitol, Trafigura, Mercuria, Glencore, etc.) as a risk analyst doing PnL for a commodity group. I think I have a good chance at landing the job but I am not sure if I should leave my current situation or not.

My ultimate goal is HF at some point. Would such a move make sense? Would it help me in any way land that HF gig quicker?

What are some online resources which can teach me more about the CMBS market. It is sort of a niche market in terms of real estate finance and I'd like to learn more about it. Anything out there?

Question about Commercial Real Estate, which is listed under DB's "Corporate & Investment Banking".

Is this an IB group where you do M&A, debt raising...etc etc? Or is this more like Jones Lang Lasalle where you invest in physical properties, rather than in REITs?

Anyone have experience with this program? Searching WSO yielded little info other than salary.

What are the interviews like? (I have re experience)
How truly selective is the program?
Any exit opps to BB RE divisions or just REPE/development?
Any major differences across locations? ie: DC vs. NY vs. Boston

Thanks in Advance

Is it possible for those in commercial banking to make the jump over to investment banking? If so, how difficult is it to do so? I've looked through the forums and could not really find this topic in there.

Hi,

I've got a superday interview this week for

Citi Global Commercial Risk division.

My questions are:

Can anyone give me an advice about what I should prepare?

Would there be more behavioral or technical questions?

And does Citi asks questions like guesstimates or brainteasers during the superday?

I majored in economics so I'm kind of worried if they ask me technical questions related

to finance or accountings. So should I study those two subjects by myself?

Thank you !

BB PWM or Commercial Banking

I'm currently considering two career paths. The first is a PWM Analyst program at a BB ibank in either Hong Kong or Singapore. The second is a credit analyst program at a regional bank in the US. I would eventually like to get into a top 15 business school in the US 2-3 years down the line and then break into ibanking at the associate level.

I feel the credit analyst position will give me a better skill set for ibanking but the prestige of working for a BB ibank in Asia is pretty compelling. However, I could just finish the credit training program and get a job in commercial banking at a bigger bank.

Is it possible to lateral into the ibanking analyst program from PWM?

Can anyone state pros/cons to either career option?

If you were to enter Real Estate - preferrably Commercial Real Estate, how would you go about your career path?

What is the best route to maximize money and home life? In terms of money and home life, how does a commercial broker look?

I extremely interested in a career in Commercial Real Estate but I am not quite sure where I should begin.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

IB vs. Commercial Banking

Ladies & Gentlemen,
do you understand why are we so crazy about IB? Why don't we dream about goin' to Commercial Banking? Maybe we're just imressed with all this IB stuff, like: good suites, white shirts, nice collar buttons, english shoes, damodaran books... (anything else?). Or maybe its about the money? If so, why do we think we will get much more in IB?
Let's compare.
An average IB analyst makes appr. 70K per year + 20-40K bonus. Let's take upside: 110K per year. But he works about 70-80 hours per week, so 110000/(80*4*12)= $28,65 per hour.

Has anyone been involved in this program and have any opinions on it?

large state school + regional bank WE --> top MBA?

What are my chances at a top MBA program? I'm currently a senior at a ~100 ranked state school.

Projected Final GPA: 3.97

WE: I worked at a nonprofit in Washington, D.C. the summer after my freshman year (all expenses paid). For the summer after my sophomore year I worked at a mid-market commercial bank as a lending intern. I was offered a job from the bank that I'm thinking about taking.

Perks of resume: I'm graduating in 3 years with ease. The University pays me $5000 per year because of scholarships (National Merit, Byrd, etc..). The only EC in undergrad was one year as President of the largest student organization on campus.

GMAT: I'm a good test taker and made a 33 on the ACT in high school so I don't think 750+ will be hard to do.

Is it possible to work as a credit analyst in the middle-market lending group for a few years at a regional bank and jump to a top MBA?
