Hi all

I'm in a FPA type role right now with a large PE/HF. It's a great role with tons of exposure to senior mgmt / some cool projects, alongside the day-to-day mgmt reporting tasks.

However, I really think that building up a technical background is really essential. The group does some corp strat stuff as well (at these small firms, the finance groups are all pretty much integrated as one) but most of the "cooler" projects are staffed by guys with more technical backgrounds, ie banking/research etc.

Tech F500 Finance Programs

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anyone can offer some insight into F500 Finance Programs, specifically for tech companies (such as Google, Apple, Microsoft). How competitive are these programs? I study Accounting in school, and am interested in going on the corporate finance track, instead of doing auditing or tax.

Also, after working some years in the corporate track, would it be hard to get into a top MBA program?

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Corporate Finance VS. I-Banking. Guide me to the promise land.

What is up monkeys? I write to you today in search of forward guidance. My dilemma is such; Come early November I will undoubtedly be offered a corporate finance analyst position and I am unsure whether or not to accept the offer or hold out for some later interviews with more Ibanks.

The gig has very reasonable hours in comparison to your standard insomnia inducing Investment Banking position but will surely pay less. I am worried about my prospects going forward in my career. Essentially, I am worried about my prospects after completing B-school and trying to get back into the more lucrative career fields, PE, VC, AM or dare I say IB.

If you had asked me a month ago I would have told you that this corporate finance job was, if anything, a warm up for my other interviews.

F500 FLDP First round interview, what to expect

I was recently invited to a first round interview for a Finance Leadership Development program position with a east-coast rail company. From what i'v seen so far, I expect this interview to be mostly behavioral, non-technical questions. I know the second round, if a make the cut, will require me to go to their HQ and meet and greet all the important people, kiss some babies, and give a prepared presentation based on a given scenario.

Do any of y'all have any experience with FLDP interviews: what kind of questions should I expect, how should I prepare, what company specific info should I know (other than the normal interview research), etc?

Big 4 vs FLDP....GO!

FLDP is being praised as the second best thing to banking/consulting on this website.
However...for those who want to be Fortune 500 finance sr.manager/directors (not in corpdev) in the future...what is the best path? Big 4 or FLDP?

Some people say Big 4 is better because most F500 managers have Big 4 experience....however when I look at FLDP people on linkedin, most people have moved up to Manager pretty quickly. (J&J, Microsoft)

Some people say both will get you there...but that's kind of vague and contradicts what pro-Big 4 people say...

What do you all think?

Hi there,

I am currently in a Finance Leadership Development Program for a top A&D company. I am nearing the rotation's end and was just wondering how hard it would be to transfer to a different company/industry after my rotations are over? I have a definite interest in staying, however with the current forecast with the DoD budget, I am not against looking at other options. I have a definite interest in J&J, GE, General Mills, etc etc and have friends/contacts that are currently in or graduated from their FLDP/FMP programs. I would just like to know the steps/feasibility in leveraging my skills I gained in my current FLDP to jump industry/company?

Thank you!

As a few of you know, I have been working in a FP&A role at a F50ish company for a few months now. Through most of my undergrad, I was very naive and thought finance only pertained to capital markets. After I failed to get offers from both ER and IB at a few MM and boutique firms the spring before my graduation, I panicked. I began working at a start up that showed signs of failing about a year later, and had to reach out to my fledging network. I managed to get an interview at a few places, including the company where I am now.

Where do Financial Leadership Analyst/Rotational programs typically lead? For example, I currently have applications in for internships at F500's like Verizon, Lockheed Martin, and AmerisourceBergen that would give me an opportunity (if I'm good) to work FT out of undergrad in leadership/rotational programs. After the 2-3 years in these programs, what job titles and comps are typically available within the company?

Hey guys,

I've been so focused on banking that I totally ruled out finance jobs at fortune 500 companies. I'm just trying to get an idea of the lifestyle and pay to see if its something worth pursuing.

What are the types of entry level FT jobs are F500 companies? What is the career path like? Do you aim to be CFO? Do industry experts ever move to banks given their knowledge?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have been working for the past 5 years as a full time firefighter in a large city. I have a BS in Finance, graduated with a 3.7, and I'm a member of a national business honors society. What would be some necessary steps to enhance my chances to land a corporate finance job? Though I have a great understanding for financial markets, I do lack the background (experience). Where to start????

The Love Remains!

The Dilemma: I am currently attending grad school in the UK and working at a BB. While I'd love the luxury of dedicating all my time to research and reaching out to academia for discussion on corporate finance in efforts to pin down a thesis topic, I have an obligation to work long hours and keep contributing to my team.

Because of the struggle to find time to allocate to my research, I'm reaching out to the wonderful crowd of WallStreetOasis visiting, reading, and criticizing or complimenting discussions to help me out.

I'm interested in the recent discussions on behavioral markets. We all know the world economy as we knew it 2 years ago doesn't exist in the same form. We've witnessed volatility in the past 2 years, maybe 3, never seen before on such magnitude. Consumer confidence was destroyed and we all witnessed our friends & families lose their jobs and or worry about losing their jobs; either way kicking job security out the door.

All the ups and downs, the regulation changes that came and are coming will shape the future of the economy and corporations, IB's, HF's, PE firms, etc.

Corporate finance career tracks

Hey, I am trying to learn more about internal corporate finance career tracks (as in doing finance work for a company that is also my employer). Is there any online/ print information information that you guys can direct me to as a potential career changer?

Undergrad in finance/ economics
mortgage industry for 6 years, 4.5 of those years in sales
looking at getting MBA in corporate finance. Also considering money management, accounting (potentially sub MS taxation or MS accountancy for MBA?)

So anyway, looking for information on corporate finance in the capacity of work for a fortune 500 or midcap company, possibly healthcare company as I would imagine that will be a hot field. I am also somewhat interested in corporate finance for small alternative energy company. The main focus is to learn about a career in corporate finance, doesn't necessarily have to be (aformentioned) industry specific.

Thanks so much guys. This is a great forum; I have read a ton of posts.
