I'm sure many of you have seen Kickstarter, the website for creative types to raise money to fund a project. Members of the site pledge a certain amount of money and are in turn promised some sort of award (usually the product the person is making).

I recently came across an interesting one: Radiate Athletics

Muscle

Disclaimer: I like/respect men and I think I know a decent bit about them after years of living/working with them.

But after reading all the posts about how you guys on WSO work on your musculature, I feel like there's something I'm just not getting, and I'm asking you guys to do me a solid and explain it to me.

Obviously bodybuilding is an obsession with a certain segment of dudes, but most of you guys don't seem like bodybuilders. Do you regular, non-bodybuilder, non-athlete guys feel that muscle really matters? As in long-term, are you guys gonna be caring/tracking/working on your musculature in your 30s/40s? If so, why?

Summer Fitness - Best workout routines?

I know there's a few gym monkeys on here and was curious as to what some people's favorite and most effective workout routines are.

I've done split routines, full body routines, dabbled in a little HIT, and then simplified it to just pull-ups and dips in the past. I'm starting back up but looking for something new and effective at building mass and throwing on some weight.

Any recommendations?

EDIT: More details

Always been in pretty good shape, though the last few years haven't I havent been as consistent as I'd like. Have a fast metabolism, so don't have problems with weight, but I seem to lose muscle mass quickly and had trouble gaining weight even when lifting regularly.

I'm starting an SA stint this summer in London. I am a keen gym monkey and was wondering what the gyms are like at BB banks. Do they have weigh facilities as well as cardio (squat rack, bench, heavy dumbbells, enough weight plates to make up 150kg (330 pounds). Also any guys who workout and work long hours, do you find it hard find motivation and train 4-5 days a week? Ithink I'll find it much tougher to keep up regular gym sessions when working. I signed myself up to participate in the spartan race end of Sept to have something to strive for to stop motivation from waning whilst working. What do fellow WSO gym monkeys think?

Is anybody currently working in the General Motors Building? (the big ass tower right behind the Apple store at 59th & 5th Ave) If so, would you mind PM'ing me? I have a few questions regarding leasing and the firms that have space in there right now. Also, and perhaps a much easier question, anybody know if there is a gym in the building? Not expecting much of a response but if you have any info or work in the building that would be really helpful.

We all knew nights blacking out and waking up the next morning were fun, but it seems that they are potentially less harmful to our waistline than we thought (if only the same could be said for our livers). The guys are Gizmodo were testing out the new Nike Fuel Band and found some pretty interesting results.

To all of the jazzerciser's and beefcakes out there...

A friend recently told me that they tried Advocare and lost xxxx pounds and 2 inches off their waist all in 24 days while taking the 24 day Advocare challenge.

Has anyone tried this? taken it? Loved it? hated it?

Even better question... is it healthy, risky, etc.

I'm debating trying it, but want to learn a little more.

I know everyone talks about how they're working in IB for the ExitOpps, so I figured I'd share my experience and how I got mine.

Growing up an only child, I never really had much interaction with children (I was educated by private tutors my whole life), so I really wanted to give back in some way or another to children. However, I was also obsessed with finance, and wanted to get into banking so I could make the money to provide for my family. I was also ridiculed by others for my size (at age 12 i weighed 319 pounds) so I thought making money would be a great way to shove it in people's faces. Even growing up, nobody really knew who I was, they only cared about my father..Tony Perkis Sr, The Lighting Fixture King of Western Pennsylvania.

I know we have a ton of gymrats on WSO, so I thought you guys would appreciate the following video. I've often wondered if there could be any veracity to the often incredible ads for pills or powders that show dramatic before and after shots. It never even occurred to me that the pictures may have been taken in reverse order, but now that I think about it, it makes sense. It's easier to get fat than it is to get buff, after all. I can't decide if I'm discouraged or motivated by this. In either case, I love the lead-pipe capitalism if this is in fact what the supplement companies are doing. What do you think?

Avoiding travel case fatness - good sneakers?

Dudes (ladies, you're unlikely to be helpful here, sorry),

Enough of this stupid undergrad whiny bullshit. Let's talk important things - like how to stay fit during your travel cases. Specifically - anyone have any recs on shoes to pack that fit in your carryon and don't suck up a ton of space? Considering the Nike Free sneakers, but I'm not a big fan of the "barefoot running" idea, even though those would absolutely pack down really light...

I have a pair of Asics but the damn things are rigid as all hell and take up half the bag, so right now whenever I travel I end up gaining a pound or two by Thursday. At this rate, I'll be Fat Albert by Xmas, so help would be much appreciated.

Monkeys, the bar has been raised once again. Brian Kuritzky is a 24 year old securities analyst at Goldman Sachs. Three weeks ago, he placed a seemingly impossible bet with several of his colleagues - that he could complete an Ironman Triathlon in under 16 hours, with zero training. That's straight out of the Aeron and into a back-to-back 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike race, and 26.2 mile run. On Saturday, that's exactly what he did.

Physical endurance of young bankers and aspiring bankers...

I have seen so many posts being put up, but couldn't find much when i searched for physical fitness and workout suggestions. Everyone talks about making big bucks, aspiring to be a billionaire, working long hours, drinking after work/every weekend and the stress in the finance world. How come there is no mention of keeping yourself fit to not just survive the stress, but also live healthy???

Even though, I had been very particular about exercising at gym, doing yoga and getting personal training, but over the past couple of years the workout routine has taken a second stand because of studies and work. As a result of my sedentary lifestyle, I can feel my neck getting tensed and other related on and off issues.

So, here is my open question to everyone here...

So sitting on a desk for 14-16 hours a day is not really helping......I need to adapt my life around it and there is a bit of tummy starting to appear.

I am sure many of you might have run into this problem if not already having it right this second. I want to go to a gym but was wondering which is the best time to.

Mornings ?? wake up early to excersice, have an active working morning but risk being tired in the afternoon ??

Lunch breaks ? still risk being tired in the afternoons !!!

Evenings , after work ? Where i might be too bored and lazy to go anyways

So just wanted to hear your intake on this.

cheers
